LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Actor Rainn Wilson took to his Twitter to highlight the anti-Christian bias in Hollywood with the example of the HBO series 'The Last of Us'. The 57-year-old actor called out the penultimate episode titled 'When We Are In Need' of the post-apocalyptic series for featuring a Bible-reading character who turns out to be a "horrific villain".

In episode 8, of the drama series which is based on a video game of the same name, the main character of the series Ellie comes across a group of cannibals led by a Christian preacher David who justifies the group's action by quoting the Bible verses. The episode later shows the cult leader attempting to rape Ellie, a young girl who then kills him in self-defense. The former 'The Office' star talked about David's character on Sunday, March 12. "I do think there is an anti-Christian bias in Hollywood. As soon as the David character in “The Last of Us” started reading from the Bible I knew that he was going to be a horrific villain. Could there be a Bible-reading preacher on a show who is actually loving and kind?" Wilson said on Twitter.

'Defamation of Christianity'

Tons of Twitter users agreed with Wilson's statement. "Defamation of Christianity has become the most unoriginal and tired cliches in movie/TV series storylines. Its prevalence is much more than a bias against an entire people, it is meant to undermine faith and position the secular-minded as only ones with altruistic intentions," LIBRE Initiative President Daniel Garza tweeted while another added, "Indeed, making Christians the bad guy in the show is the norm, nowadays."

New Christendom Press CEO Eric Conn remarked, “Goes back to Mr. Collins in Austen’s ‘Pride & Prejudice.’ The preacher man is nearly always portrayed in a negative light. Also true of Hollywood today.” Evie Magazine founder Brittany Martinez tweeted, “As SOON as the pastor started reading from the Bible I knew he was going to be awful. I was like ‘watch that guy be David the creepy cannibal from the video game.’ And then it was David. Shocked. Surprised. Never seen it before. He wasn’t a pastor in the video game.”

Rainn Wilson is an outspoken leftist

Wilson’s recent social media activity might have surprised his fans as the actor is an outspoken leftist, especially on Twitter. In November, ‘The Rocker’ actor changed his name to “Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson” on Instagram to promote climate change awareness. "I’m hoping this name change brings attention to this growing … er, melting issue. We need world leaders at COP27 to take notice and take action. The Arctic is melting at millions of liters per second, yet this problem can’t seem to make a name for itself, so it’s up to us to make a name for it," Wilson said.
