If you have been eagerly waiting to unravel what’s in store for Season 4 of ‘The Good Doctor’ then one can say the wait is about to be over. The medical drama series is returning for its Season 4 after wrapping up with its Season 3 in March this year. Recently on September 19, the poster of ‘The Good Doctor’ has dropped to the excitement of fans. It questioned, “How do you heal a world turned upside down?” imprinted on the face of series star Freddie Highmore, who plays Dr Shaun Murphy.

This makes us go back to the hit drama that had ended with an intense finale showing some thrilling heroic acts, an unexpected romance and unfortunately a death that circled the life of St Bonaventure Hospital staff.

Where we left off

Season 3 Part 2 started with Dr Claire Brown (Antonia Thomas) rushing Dr Neil Melendez (Nicholas Gonzalez) back to the hospital and trying to out why he collapsed. Claire and Dr Lim (Christina Chang) both hoped that his surgery would fix his injuries, which could not happen due to internal damage leading to his death.

What made his death even more aching for fans was that Claire had just realized she had feelings for him. However, her previous losses like that of her mother might help her deal better with the situation. But hold on, Season 3 finale was not that sad. It ended with Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Lea (Paige Spara) finally getting together and springing romance. We cannot forget how Lea kissed Shaun passionately and professed her love which is where the writers hoped the season would end.

"We explored a bunch of different choices as things went along," showrunner David Shore said. "I really liked his relationship with Carly, we all did. Jasika Nicole was so great. But Paige is so great and Lea's so great, and this felt right at the beginning and right at the end. It feels like this is where it should be, and we'll explore that relationship next year as well.”

What we'd like to see

While Shaun and Lea’s friendship will be the highlight of the much-anticipated new season, there are other things too that will grab our attention. Firstly, not all the characters in ‘The Good Doctor’ are making a return. Shortly after the Season 3 finale, TVLine announced that actress Jasika Nicole would not be returning as Dr Carly Lever. Many fans speculated the future of characters like Dr Alex Park and Dr Morgan Reznick would end, which is not true. They are pretty much returning in the show as stated by the showrunners.

“Look, I don’t think Dr Park is going to be leaving. I don’t think Dr Morgan’s going to be leaving, but there will be changes for those characters as a result of things that have happened to them and the experiences they’ve had—in her case a physical change, in his case an emotional change. But there will be changes for both of them”, Shore said as reported by Deadline.

When is it returning

Season 4 of The Good Doctor is premiering on Monday, November 2, at 10 pm ET on ABC.
