'The French Dispatch': Release date, plot, cast, trailer, news and all you need to know about Wes Anderson's next
Wes Anderson's next, 'The French Dispatch', was announced in August 2018 and the backdrop of the film was announced along with the same. In November 2018, it was announced that Tilda Swinton and Mathieu Amalric will be a part of the project that is being be produced by Jeremy Dawson. While Brad Pitt and Natalie Portman were rumoured to be also involved, the cast that has been announced since then does not feature them. According to media reports, 'The French Dispatch' film will bring together all elements of Anderson's previous nine films and many of his recurring collaborators.
Release date
The film's release date is yet to be announced, however, it is expected to make it to the screens in 2020.
Plot
'The French Dispatch' is a dramedy set in France, post World War II. The film was initially expected to be a musical, but a report in Indiewire stated that the official synopsis refers to the movie as a “love letter to journalists set at an outpost of an American newspaper in 20th Century Paris.”
Speaking about the film, Anderson said, "The story is not easy to explain. [It’s about an] American journalist based in France [who] creates his magazine. It is more a portrait of this man, of this journalist who fights to write what he wants to write. It’s not a movie about freedom of the press, but when you talk about reporters you also talk about what’s going on in the real world."
Cast
The film will see Frances McDormand as Fabian Nürnberger, Bill Murray as Arthur Howitzer Jr., Timothée Chalamet as Zeffirelli, Jeffrey Wright as Roebuck Wright, Christoph Waltz as Boris Schommers, and Jason Schwartzman as Hermes Jones. It will also see Benicio del Toro, Léa Seydoux, Tilda Swinton, Saoirse Ronan, Kate Winslet, Owen Wilson and Elisabeth Moss making appearances.
Writer-Director
This is the tenth film by Wes Anderson - one of the most celebrated filmmakers of the current times. Reports suggest that the director will include elements from his nine previous movies in the dramedy. Some of his best works include 'The Darjeeling Limited', 'Fantastic Mr Fox', 'The Grand Budapest Hotel', and the most recent of his movies, 'Isle of Dogs', was nominated for the Academy Award under the Best Animated Feature Film category.
Poster
The first poster of 'The French Dispatch' was released on February 11. The poster is a graphic image of the office of The French Dispatch -- a weekly supplement to the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun -- superimposed on the cover of an issue featuring the star cast of the film. This includes Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Bill Murray, Jeffrey Wright, Adrien Brody, Benecio Del Torro, Owen Wilson, Lea Seydoux, Timothee Chalamet, Lyna Khoudri, Stephen Park and Mathieu Amalric. The actors look like the characters they play in the film and are featured in different settings that hints at their character traits. The poster also lists actors such as Elizabeth Moss, Saoirse Ronan, Liev Schreiber, Edward Norton among others on the poster. The New Yorker also released first look images that gives an extensive look at the film's theme, the roles of different actors.
