Spoiler alert for Season 6, Episode 6 of ‘The Flash’

“Dibny. Ralph Dibny,” says the Elongated Man (Hartley Sawyer) as his civilian identity steps into the role of a spy, and takes on all the cliches that come with it. Fans tweeted out their love for Ralph’s suave new style, with Barry (Grant Gustin) as his surprisingly goofy sidekick. Danielle Panabaker, who directed this episode, joined the fans online to livetweet the episode and talk about what shooting it was like.

Ralph and Barry suit up for this episode, but not as superheroes - this time, they wear tuxedos. As Barry helps Ralph look for Sue Dearborn at a high-end casino, we discover that Barry is just not cut out for undercover work, which did not escape fans’ notice. “Barry I’m sorry but undercover work just isn’t your thing…” notes one Twitter user.

The episode saw Ralph take the lead, and the fans were all on board for it. One user even called for a spinoff - “No, really. A show where Ralph Dibney is a suave detective that also moonlights as a costumed hero would be awesome.” Another fan took time to appreciate the growth Ralph has shown since his first appearance: “Ralph, you’re really grown over the last few seasons. I’m glad you’re on the team.”

While many of this season’s character-focused episodes saw Barry telling his teammates how important they are, this episode saw Ralph do the same for Barry, telling him that he’s equally important as the Flash. It’s a sentiment that resonated strongly with fans everywhere. “Barry Allen is just as important as The Flash!! Aww Ralph” was a reaction whose sentiment voiced by many.

It’s been a darker season, with Barry worried about his approaching death, and fans appreciated being able to have a little fun. “It's legit been a nice breath of fresh air to have some fun going on in this episode,” tweeted one user. “This has to be one of my favorite episodes ever. @dpanabaker awesome job on this one!” said another, congratulating Danielle Panabaker on her direction of this episode.

Panabaker herself was sharing tweets about the episode as it progressed, giving fans a little look behind the scenes. “We tried to shoot as many different areas in the Orpheum as possible. I loved all the gold tones,” she said, later adding, “So much fun to have @CarloRota as our Bond Villain in tonight’s episode of #TheFlash,” highlighting the show’s James Bond vibe.
