Spoilers for ‘The Flash’

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: When it comes to superhero films, whether you’re talking about Marvel, DC, or any other franchise under the sun that dares to covert their comics to live-action, the one element that remains important is CGI. This element has seen a lot of development over the decades, and now in 2023, with high budgets, A-list celebrities, and a dedicated team working around the clock, it is hard to miss the mark. Is it possible that ‘The Flash’ missed this mark?

As ‘The Flash’ makes its way onto the big screen with big promises, a multiverse storyline, several cameos, and a lot to look forward to, the fans don’t seem too pleased with the CGI of the movie. In fact, fans are almost shocked that despite the budget and all the effort that had been put into this Ezra Miller starrer superhero flick, how could they possibly go wrong with this element? Fans have taken over Twitter to express their disappointment over the CGI in ‘The Flash.’

‘They don’t get a pass’

Undoubtedly, ‘The Flash’ has several noteworthy moments but this glaringly obvious error is something the fans have pointed out and can’t look away from. One person took to Twitter and wrote, “The flash is a new low for superhero movies shoving cameos in your face with bad cgi all around.” Some also compared ‘The Flash’ and ‘Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness’ as one user said, “The Flash is just the Multiverse of Madness with really bad CGi… both were mid.”

Another person tweeted, “They don’t get a pass. When it’s been bad they get called out. I’ve also never seen a mcu movie with as bad of cgi as this. The flash has been in development forever too so there is no excuse.”

Fans who waited for ‘The Flash’ to hit the big screen for the longest time have left a few reviews but the mention of bad CGI doesn’t go unnoticed as one fan said, “#TheFlash is a mess. The first act is the strongest but it quickly goes off the rails. Bad execution of a good premise. Its visual style is let down by bad CGI throughout. So many attempts at humor fall flat. Not a single laugh in my audience. The ending doesn’t make sense.”

DC fans have begun to worry about the future of the franchise as one tweet read, “Aquaman 2 is already known to be bad. Blue beetle is gonna flop. The flash is overrated. And has horrible cgi. Superman movie years from now won’t be better than cw superman and Lois.”

And of course, the speculations have begun as fans begin to wonder what went wrong. One fan tweeted, “I wonder tho, what happened during production that made the Flash's CGI so bad? A lot has happened but what specifically? Cuz it had a decent budget (much more than TSS and that movie looked better than this) There were defo restraints of some kind that f**ked it all up.”

‘The Flash’s shocking budget

As per ScreenRant, ‘The Flash’ had a budget of approximately $220 million, which might seem like a lot at first glance. However, this budget isn’t close to other DC movies like ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and ‘Justice League’ which had budgets of $250 million and $300 million, respectively. In fact, according to a listicle created by ScreenRant about the most expensive superhero movies ever made, ‘The Flash’s budget matches the 2012 MCU movie, ‘The Avengers’. As of now, it is unclear how much of ‘The Flash’s budget was dedicated to CGI, but according to the fans, it clearly wasn’t enough.

You can watch ‘The Flash’ from June 16, 2023, in theatres near you.
