The CW's 'Nancy Drew': Bess continues to intrigue viewers as she admires missing ring inside her trailer

In the pilot, Nancy notes Bess lives away with her rich aunt in a mansion when actually she lives out of a trailer. What is her deal?

Spoilers ahead for Season 1 premiere of The CW's 'Nancy Drew.'

When we first meet Bess Marvin (Maddison Jaizani), all we knew about her is that she is a rich city girl with a mysterious past who works as a waitress with Nancy at the Claw.

Bess doesn't belong to the Claw, for, when waitressing, she tells customers of the different forks for the different courses. George (Leah Lewis) repeatedly tells her to give customers just necessary cutlery and not waste multiple forks at one table. Even Kennedy McMann's Nancy notes that she is not a natural in the hospitality sector.

In the pilot episode, Tiffany Hudson (Sinead Curry) is murdered right outside the Claw while her husband Ryan (Riley Smith) is inside the diner. The police immediately count Nancy, George, Bess, Ace (Alex Saxon), and Nancy's boyfriend Ned (Tunji Kasim) as prime suspects in the murder owing to their proximity to the dead body. They also cite motives that each of them could possibly have to murder Tiffany. Of course, the group must prove their innocence before the cops implicate them for a crime they never committed.

After finding some clues, the girls are led to a medium Harriet (Pamela Sue Martin). They visit Harriet to actually communicate with Tiffany, but instead, Dead Lucy decides to grace them with a very cryptic message - "find the dress." Dead Lucy is the ghost of Lucy, who wore the crown of Horseshoe Bay's Sea Queen for just one night in 2000 before dying at the age of 17. The group is then pretty confused if Dead Lucy is really haunting their investigation as they had first theorized.

After the meeting, we follow Bess into a trailer that is parked in the middle of nowhere. Inside, she removes her jacket and then pulls a ring out of a ziplock bag to admire it. It is Tiffany Hudson's ring that cops couldn't find on her body. As the episode ends, Bess lies down on the floor of the trailer, fully content with herself as she continues admiring the ring.

When listing the motives the group has to kill Tiffany, Chief McGinnis (Adam Beach) notes that there is an ex-convict in the group. He is talking about Ned, but Bess takes the opportunity to clarify that it was one instance of shoplifting - something that the group did not know about her past.

In the pilot, Nancy also notes that Bess is away from the city living with her rich aunt in a mansion when actually, she is living in a trailer all alone. What is her deal?

Bess doesn't look like the kind who would commit murder for a ring. As a shoplifter, she is probably just proud of flicking the ring off Tiffany without getting noticed. That still leaves her past unaccounted for. Why is she living in a trailer? Why has Bess lied about herself?

'Nancy Drew' airs Wednesdays at 9 PM ET on The CW.
