'The Crown' Season 4: Diana's treatment by royal family has fans seeing it as Meghan Markle's 'vindication'

2020 may have been as dreary as possible, but at least, Netflix delivered what has to be the best season of its royal drama, 'The Crown'. The fourth season of 'The Crown' is perhaps as much about the late Princess Diana (played wonderfully by Emma Corrin) as it is about Queen Elizabeth II (Olivia Coleman at her finest, as always), or even Britain's first female Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher (Gillian Anderson in her best role to date). We see Diana as a teenager when she first meets Prince Charles (Josh O'Connor), how she falls for him as an unsure, insecure young woman, and how she begins to come into her own in the second half of the season.

The Netflix drama shows us that the royal family did its best to rein in a free-spirited young woman, and how her marriage to Charles was a sham because the man Diana was in love with was really in love with someone else — leading to both of them having affairs, but only Diana being persecuted by her family because of it. It suffices to say that 'The Crown' made us fall in love with Diana again, but also feel angry on her behalf.

But it is not just Diana's tragic end that fans have been reminded of with the new season of 'The Crown'. At seeing the way she had been treated by the royal family from the very beginning, fans are expressing their support for Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, and how the new season serves as a vindication for the couple. A fan tweeted, "Who knew #TheCrown would be Meghan's vindication. #TheCrownNetflix Diana still looking out for her baby boy." Another wrote, "Meghan, sweetie you did that. You saw these ghouls for what they are, took your man, your baby, and got the hell out. We stan in this life and the next. #TheCrown."

A viewer wrote, "The royal family destroyed Diana, and the only reason they didn’t get the chance with Meghan was because she escaped their clutches, I never understood why they moved so far away from them until now #TheCrown." Another expressed, "#TheCrown this season just proves again why Harry & Meghan left that institution for all the right reasons. One thing I know for sure is that Diana would be so proud of Harry for treating his spouse the way Diana deserved to be treated by hers." A viewer wrote, "'Diana is an immature little girl who, in time, will give up her struggles, give up her fight and bend, as Philip did. As they all do. And when she bends, she will fit.' 'And if she doesn’t bend, what then?' 'She will break.' Meghan didn’t bend or break ... she left."

A viewer even dug up an interview with Prince Harry where he talks about how everything that Diana went through is still raw to him to show how much he was still affected by it. The viewer tweeted, "Prince Harry caught onto his family’s bullshit quick and said the only way to protect my wife and baby is to get the f**k out “Everything that she (Diana) went through and what happened to her is incredibly raw every single day...it’s me not want a repeat of the past” #TheCrown."
