What is the plot of 'The Brothers Sun'?
Michelle Yeoh plays Sun family matriarch Eileen 'Mama' Sun, who lives with her youngest son Bruce in Los Angeles. But when her estranged husband and crime boss is killed by assassins in Taipei, her oldest son Charles, who's also a gangster, heads to LA to protect his mother and brother from what he fears are coordinated attacks on his family. But Charles's arrival in LA means that Bruce finally learns of his family's crime-ridden past that his mother tried to shield him from and Charles learns the real reason his mother left Taipei.

What could we possibly add to Yeoh's stellar bio. But for those who have been living under a rock for the last decade or so, the Malaysian Yeoh is widely regarded as one of the finest actresses ever to emerge from Asia. Yeoh burst to global stardom in the 1997 James Bond movie 'Tomorrow Never Dies' alongside Pierce Brosnan. But it was her role as Yu Shu Lien in the Oscar-winning 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' that cemented her place as a formidable talent. Since then she has starred in 'Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2', 'Crazy Rich Asians' and 'Star Trek: Discovery' to name just a few. You can see her next as Madame Morrible in the upcoming cinematic version of 'Wicked' alongside Ariana Grande and as Dr Karina Mogue in the next 26 'Avatar' sequels (that number's a joke -- there are only three more -- but with James Cameron you just never know).

Is 'The Brothers Sun' worth watching?
Ostensibly a 'black comedy', the only thing that worries us is that 'The Brothers Sun' may veer into slapstick territory (not that we have anything against slapstick). With the subject matter available, though, not to mention the acting talent, this has the makings of a truly great show, but one in which they do need to take the premise seriously, otherwise this could be an unfortunate failure.
