Spoiler alert for Season 4 Episode 3 of 'The Bold Type' titled 'Marathon'

Jane (Katie Stevens) was finding it particularly difficult to trust Ryan (Dan Jeannotte) again after he kissed someone on his book tour. She is physically unable to even look at Ryan or make eye contact.

So when he is back in town after the book tour is cut short, Jane finds herself struggling to maintain any kind of proximity with him. So with all of Ryan's attempts at getting close to Jane unsuccessful, their relationship is stuck at Ryan's betrayal.

In Episode 3 titled 'Marathon', Jane decides that there is no way out of this unless she talks to Ryan, who then suggests that they try tantric sex — an orgasm is the secondary product of tantric sex, the foremost being emotional, spiritual connection.

However, this doesn't go according to plan either because when thinking back to the night Ryan kissed someone else, Jane nurses the worst in her head.

Sutton (Meghann Fahy) suggests that she ask Ryan about what happened that night. When Ryan confesses that it was a drunken mistake right out of a stupor of alcohol and incoherence, Jane finds herself relieved and they decide to try having sex again.

Only this time, Ryan is in his own head and cannot connect to Jane. So basically, Ryan and Jane are at square one with their roles reversed.

Elsewhere, Scarlet Magazine going digital has Jacqueline (Melora Hardin) on her toes. So much so that she can barely make it to a farewell luncheon hosted by her husband Ian's (Gildart Jackson) colleagues.

Tensions between Ian and her are evident when he shows up at work with the kids (they are planning to go directly from there to save time). Ian is set to leave the country in a few days to cover the Russian Revolution and Jacqueline shows no longing.

Communication between the two is so flawed that the question of unhappiness in their marriage isn't answered directly either — "How unhappy are you with our marriage, Ian?" "Just about as unhappy as you are, Jacqueline."

'The Bold Type' airs on Thursdays at 9/ 8c on Freeform.
