'The Alienist', based on Caleb Carr's books, had a nail-biting rollercoaster of a ride in Season 2 and was given the slogan 'Angel Of Darkness' attached to the title.

A baby kidnapper, who was also a child murderer, was on the loose and it was upto Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Bruhl), Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning) and John Moore (Luke Evans) to hunt her down. It was a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase, that involved murders, attempted killings, and dark pasts being brought to the foreground. There were several personal dramas unfolding along the way, that got enmeshed with the case too. Nevertheless, all's well that ends well....sort of?

The ending of Season 2 paves the way for a Season 3. Here's what we know.

Release date

There has been no formal announcement as yet, and showrunners had just said a while back they're waiting for writer Caleb Carr to come out with a third book. According to Deadline, executive producer Stuart Carolan said that he's writing one. So our guess is, you're going to be waiting a while if the third book isn't out there yet.

Plot

Season 2 had its own slogan, and for good reason, as the murderer, Libby Hatch, was an angel of darkness. Nevertheless, the season ended with Kreizler going to Vienna and John and Sara parting ways as his fiancee Violet is pregnant. It wasn't the ending most of us would have liked as John and Sara did not reunite as we hoped. But this ending still leaves hope for a possible return of the characters in Season 3, and perhaps a happier ending for the two star-crossed lovers.

Cast

The main cast of the show includes Dakota Fanning, Daniel Bruhl and Luke Evans.
