Edward Rogers Jr., who had a history of domestic abuse as well as a manslaughter conviction, killed his wife Alyssa Marie Mejia Rogers after an argument

A Texas man killed his estranged wife, stored her body in a freezer for eight days and even showed it off to one of his friends before shooting and killing himself.

Authorities are investigating the deaths of Edward Rogers Jr., 66, and his wife Alyssa Marie Mejia Rogers, 24, a native of the Philippines, after they arrived at his home in the 5200 block of Livermore Drive on Monday, July 29, and found their dead bodies, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Rogers and Alyssa's deaths are being investigated as a murder-suicide.

The officers made the gruesome discovery after the former's friend reported that he had killed his wife and showed him the body as proof.

That friend, who has remained unidentified, had told Arlington Police that Rogers had called him up last week and told him he was going through a turbulent divorce and was suffering from depression.

He said that he met Rogers at a restaurant in the city a few days later, where the 66-year-old detailed the fall out he had had with his wife who had long since moved out of his house. Rogers told him that she had taken their one-year-old son to the Philippines and left him there.

He also said that Alyssa had falsely accused him of hitting and injuring her, assaulting her, and had called the police to have him arrested.

Rogers then revealed that, after his arrest, his wife had filed a protective order against him, then enticed him into having sex with her so she could record the act and prove he had violated the order.

The witness said he then received messages from Rogers on July 28 insisting that it was very important that they meet.

He said when he went to his house, the 66-year-old told him he had killed Alyssa during a fight after he pushed her and she hit her head.

When he didn't believe the claim, he said Rogers opened the freezer to show him the dead body of his wife and then "grabbed the buttocks of the deceased person, smirked, and stated that it was cold."

Rogers then told the witness that he was going to call family members and write letters to tell them he loved them and he was sorry before he killed himself.

He was found dead by the authorities a day later and had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Alyssa was his second wife, and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that he had a history of abuse that extended past this relationship and into his previous marriage with Jennifer Rogers, which ended five years ago.

Jennifer said he was often angry and vindictive, and revealed that Child Protective Services had removed their 13-year-old son from his home in 2018 after he threatened them.

"His father called me on the phone and said, 'I’m going to kill you and I’m going to kill (my son) and I’m going to cut you up into little bitty pieces and put it where nobody will ever find you again,'" she said.

She also said she had seen him stab and kill a man in May 2004 over a work dispute, a crime to which he later pleaded guilty but was only sentenced to deferred-adjudication probation.

Her mother, Jackie Lee, described Rogers as a "very angry and manipulative" man and said she and her family had seen him beat Alyssa on multiple occasions, and once, even throw her across the room.

She said police had responded to domestic abuse calls at the house on at least six occasions, and that neighbors who were familiar with the abuse had tried to get Alyssa into a domestic violence shelter.

An autopsy has been scheduled to identify the cause of Alyssa's death.
