CONVERSE, TEXAS: A 15-year-old Texas boy died after being shot in the face by his brother's 21-year-old friend on Monday, August 5.

The teenager, Zhavhon Brown, was reportedly shot using an AR-15 rifle in Converse, Texas.

The shooting took place before 7 am at a residence located on Gander Park.

When the authorities reached the place, they found Brown with a gunshot wound and he was immediately rushed to the Brooke Army Medical Center in critical condition.

The victim's family revealed that Brown succumbed to his injuries at around 11 am the same morning.

Although the suspect, Robert Rene Amaya, had fled from the scene initially, he was eventually arrested.

Amaya, who is a friend of the victim's older brother, has been charged with manslaughter, Converse Police Lt. Jeff Shook said as reported by ABC News

Authorities told KENS 5 that "the shooting was not intentional, but reckless conduct".

Currently, the Converse Police Department has been able to identify two witnesses whom they are interviewing for further information.

A neighbor in the area, Jerry Huerta said, "These times are different. You really have to keep your arms around your children, grandchildren in our case, and ensure that they're safe and that they truly understand that too."

Other people shared that the neighborhood is usually very quiet and compromises retirees and military families.

The incident follows the two tragic mass shootings that took place in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas over the weekend. The shootings resulted in 31 people losing their lives and dozens getting injured.

US President Donald Trump spoke in a White House conference and said, "We must ensure that those deemed to pose a serious public safety risk do not have access to firearms and that if they do, these firearms can be traversed quickly."31
