Tehran bans dog walking in public, says the animals are 'creating fear and anxiety' among the public

Iran's capital Tehran has banned dog owners from walking the canines in public and driving with the pets in their cars, and will 'take measures' against those who break the law
UPDATED JAN 30, 2019

In what will be perceived as a victory in its decades-long battle to discourage the ownership of dogs, Iran's capital city of Tehran has banned walking dogs in public. Similarly, they have also outlawed driving with the canines in cars.

According to the BBC, the ban was issued by Tehran's Prosecutor's Office, with the city's police chief Hossein Rahimi confirming they would henceforth "take measures against people walking dogs in public spaces such as parks." He also added that, if people were observed driving around with dogs in their vehicles, "serious action will be taken" against the owners in question.
