Netflix's 'Sweet Magnolias' is all set to make its return with Season 2. The show will be returning with the three best friends Joanna Garcia Swisher as Maddie Townsend, Brooke Elliott as Dana Sue Sullivan and Heather Headley as Helen Decatur. Season 1 of the romantic drama series received positive feedback from viewers and critics.

Set in the fictional Serenity, South Carolina, 'Sweet Magnolias 2' centers on the lives of three best friends. As the second season will be premiering soon, here are all the details about the show.

Release date

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the makers have not yet disclosed the release date. In an interview with Glamour, showrunner Sheryl J Anderson said “I don't know how to do this show without kissing, so we want to make sure everybody is safe and feels comfortable returning to the passion of Serenity."

Plot

'Sweet Magnolias' is an American drama that revolves around the lives of three best friends living in Serenity, South Carolina. The show also focuses on the challenges and setbacks faced by the three friends. It is based on Sherryl Woods 'Sweet Magnolias' novel series.

Cast

Netflix has confirmed that all the three main leads Joanna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley will return. In an interview with Glamour, Anderson said, "I'm thrilled and excited to come back with a cast and a crew that I love so much. It’s such a valentine to everybody who worked so hard to make Serenity such a beautiful place. JoAnna, Brooke, and Heather and I were jumping up and down while texting each other, and we look forward to doing that over Zoom too."

Joanna will be playing the character of Maddie Townsend who is a divorced woman and lives in Serenity, South Carolina.

Brooke Elliot

The former 'Broadway' star will be essaying the character of Dana Sue Sullivan, the head chef at a top restaurant who faces troubles in raising her daughter alone.

Heather Headley

Heather Headley will be portraying the character of Helen Decatur, a lawyer by profession who adores the little town of Serenity with her 2 best friends.

Director/Writer

The original author of the book, Sherryl Woods, will be working on the series with showrunner Sheryl J Anderson. The series will be directed by Norman Buckley and Daniel Paulson will be the executive producer. In a tweet, Woods confirmed that she'll be bringing more of 'Sweet Magnolias' on-screen. She tweeted, "It might take TWO more seasons to get to everything you want. Or three. Or four." The writers of 'Sweet Magnolias' tweeted ”Pour it out! #SweetMagnolias is officially coming back for a Season 2. We can’t wait to welcome y’all back to Serenity with Maddie, Dana Sue, Helen, and the whole gang. Ten more episodes of margaritas, love, and a few surprises."
