While there has been an apparent polling momentum supporting Biden, those anticipating a significantly different electoral outcome in November will have to contend with the fact that President Donald Trump's 2016 voters are solidly backing his re-election, according to a recent poll conducted by Axios and SurveyMonkey.

The poll found that those planning to vote for Trump in the general election are way more enthusiastic about casting their ballots as compared to those planning to vote for Biden. According to Newsweek, the poll was based on responses from 6,275 adult Americans who shared their respective positions on political leadership, police reform, protests, and the Black Lives Matter movement.

According to the findings, more than 70 percent of participants backing Trump are excited for him in 2020, and more than half of them are "extremely excited" to do so.

In comparison, only 46 percent of Biden supporters said they are excited to vote for him, and less than one-third of them said they were "extremely excited."

"Despite months of upheaval, Trump’s 2016 coalition is undented and also fired up for the campaign ahead," SurveyMonkey wrote. "Not only are his 2016 voters overwhelmingly supporting this time around (96% indicate they’d vote for him over Biden), 70% strongly approve of the job he’s doing as president (93% overall approval), and 57% are 'extremely excited' about voting for him in November. Contrast that to a scant 33% of 2016 Clinton voters who are that enthusiastic about voting for Biden this year."

That said, not all participants were asked which candidate they plan to support in the November election. Nonetheless, it was found that Biden still held a 10 percent lead over Trump among those who made their preference known. 53 percent were found to support the former vice president while the current president had only 43 percent supporting him.

Four percent did not respond to questions about their voting plans, according to SurveyMonkey, which administered the poll online between June 12 and June 16 and reported the margin of error for most results as plus or minus 2 percent.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll conducted during the last week of May had similar results, with Trump supporters expressing more excitement to vote than Biden supporters.

Meanwhile, most recent national polls show Biden enjoying a significant lead over Trump less than six months from the general election. A Fox News survey released on June 18 showed that 50 percent of participants said they planned to vote for Biden while only 38 percent planned to vote for Trump.

The 12-point lead of Biden as projected by Fox News came as multiple polls conducted earlier this month indicated that Trump was losing support over his administration's handling of the coronavirus pandemic as well as the nationwide protests against police brutality and racial injustice since George Floyd's death.

The Axios-SurveyMonkey poll also took responses about the voters' stance on recent demonstrations against police violence and the Black Lives Matter movement based on their favored presidential candidate. It was found that Biden supporters were in favor of both, while Trump supporters did not approve of them.
