'Sunnyside' Season 1: Fans feel Donald Trump should watch Kal Penn's new NBC comedy on immigrant struggle
Starring Kal Penn, 'Sunnyside' rolled out a new comedy series based on the life of Garrett Modi, the youngest New York City Councilman who is disgraced after a video goes viral online. The pilot episode starts with a comical theme and sheds light on the immigrant struggle but soon turns into a dull drama. However, with Penn headlining the series, it attracted much attention and fans are raving about the show despite not-so-great reviews.

There were several sarcastic tweets with a political angle. "I think @realDonaldTrump should watch #Sunnyside. It would definitely be his new favorite show," one tweet read. "Kal Penn's character in the new sitcom Sunnyside is a sleazy politician named Modi. And I wonder if ₹5/tweet bhakts will take it as an attack on their great leader. Not knowing that Kal's actual surname is also Modi. Tho maybe Kal intended it as a dual purpose thing too," another one said.
However, many users agreed that the show was a tad bit slow in the beginning. "Sunnyside was fucking great. Slow start and I didn’t manage to keep my family in the room to watch with me because they disliked the protag so much and lack the blind faith I have in Mike Schur, but the f**king phenomenal ending and (SPOILER) if they don’t get that great Moldovan," one tweet read.
Many users connected personally to it. "I really liked #SunnySide and I have no doubt it’s gotten that much harder to get a green card and become a citizen," one user wrote and another one posted, "I love the show, growing up in Sunnyside I could relate to so many of the topics that they touch on. I can’t wait until next week."
While the pilot garnered average reviews, there's hope that as more episodes are released over the next few weeks, the series will slowly reveal its sunny side to viewers!
