UPDATED FEB 4, 2019

A student at the University of Vermont was reportedly found frozen to death after he tried to take a shortcut to his house in sub-zero temperatures.

The student, identified as 19-year-old Connor Gage, was found lying in the snow in a parking lot in Burlington on Saturday, just before 11 am. Gage, from New York, was reportedly a freshman at the university and was a neuroscience major.

Emergency crews could not revive the freshman and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Daily Mail. Police officials said that Gage was walking through the parking lot during the early hours of the day when he was stopped by a fence.
