'Stranger Things' Season 4 Vol 2: Is Will gay? Upcoming part may reveal his ambiguous sexuality

The bowl cut wasn't the only thing about Noah Schnapp's Will Byers garnering the buzz in 'Stranger Things' Season 4. The first volume shed light on his ambiguous sexuality — a mystery that The Duffer Brothers say will be resolved. The whole 'is Will gay' debate has been raging on since the start of Season 3, and his interactions with Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) in the recent installment have had fans outrightly conclude that he was indeed gay.

It was almost as if the creators were expecting that question. In an interview with TV Line ahead of the Vol 2 premiere, Matt Duffer said. "You’re supposed to be asking those questions." That said, neither of them confirmed if Will was gay. "This is where it gets tricky since we haven’t released the whole season yet,” Matt continues. “I just want people to watch the final two episodes” of Season 4. In them, he promises that the audience will get clarity on the matter.

Is Will Byers gay in 'Stranger Things'?

The first instance of Will's sexual orientation was seen in Season 3 when he gets miffed about Mike just "making out" with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and caring more about a "stupid" girl. In response, Mike snaps back saying, "It’s not my fault you don’t like girls," leaving his friend shocked. The major giveaway of his hidden sexuality in Season 4 was his class project which was supposed to be about the important people in history. Per an eagle-eyed fan, Will's assignment was about Britain's WWII hero, Alan Turing who was openly gay.

“We have story arcs and we have character arcs,” Ross remarked. “How we structured the season, we’ve released the first two acts of this story. The final act, which is the last two episodes, resolves a lot of things, both character, and story, and then some of it is also setting up for our final season.” 

Earlier, Schnapp’s comment to Variety was equally riddling as well. “I think that’s the beauty of it, that it’s just up to the audience’s interpretation, if it’s Will kind of just refusing to grow up and growing up slower than his friends, or if he is really gay." It looks like fans will have to wait for two more episodes to see how it all pans out for Will.
