In recent weeks, there have been a lot of talks about how big the latest season will be, in terms of scale and duration as well. The Duffer Brothers, who are creators of the show, recently revealed that Episodes 7 and 9 are “full-blown movies”.

As soon as the statement surfaced online, fans got really excited to know that the latest season will be a “super-sized” one. However, Netflix’s blog site, Tudum, has finally revealed the official runtimes for all the nine episodes of the upcoming edition and we can tell you that Season 4 will be a gigantic one.

For the uninitiated, the season has been divided into two volumes. Volume 1 consists of seven episodes and will be releasing on Netflix on Friday, May 27. On the other hand, the second volume will have two episodes and will be available for streaming on July 1, 2022.

So, let’s take a look at the official runtime of all the nine episodes of ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4.

‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 is over 5 hours longer than previous seasons

While promoting the upcoming season of the Netflix show, creators Matt and Ross Duffer said that the upcoming edition will be the “biggest yet” and it seems they definitely meant it. The first six episodes of the season will be having an average runtime of 1 hour and 15 minutes. Meanwhile, the seventh episode will be coming in at 1 hour and 38 minutes.

On the other hand, the final two episodes of the Netflix sci-fi series will have a runtime of almost four hours. Yes, you heard it right. The final two episodes of ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 will undoubtedly be like “fully blown movies”.

Here’s the official runtime for episodes of ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4:

·       Chapter One: ‘The Hellfire Club’ – 1 hour, 16 minutes
·       Chapter Two: ‘Vecna’s Curse’ – 1 hour, 17 minutes
·       Chapter Three: ‘The Monster and the Superhero’ – 1 hour, 3 mins
·       Chapter Four: ‘Dear Billy’ – 1 hour, 17 minutes
·       Chapter Five: ‘The Nina Project’ – 1 hour, 14 minutes
·       Chapter Six: ‘The Dive’ – 1 hour, 13 minutes
·       Chapter Seven: ‘The Massacre at Hawkins Lab’ – 1 hour, 38 minutes
·       Chapter Eight: ‘Papa’ – 1 hour, 25 minutes
·       Chapter Nine: ‘The Piggyback’ – 2 hours, 30 minutes

This means that Season 4 of the Netflix series will be roughly around 13 hours, confirming that the show’s fourth edition will be it’s biggest yet.

A large chunk of fans are really excited about the super-sized episodes, but they are also worried about quality because they believe that the creators might over-stuff the season with things that might prove to be unnecessary. There are many original shows and movies that have been hit or miss for the streaming platform, ‘Stranger Things’ have always maintained its quality and got better with each season.

The series has received universal acclaim and features a supremely talented cast that made us fall in love with Hawkins. The show has been nominated for 31 Primetime Emmys (six wins), nine SAG Awards (one win), four Golden Globe Awards, two Peabody Awards (one win), and three Grammy Awards.

So, it’s safe to say that quality is never an issue with ‘Stranger Things’. However, it will be interesting to see how these extra minutes will be used during the show and what crazy things The Upside Down has in store for us.

Here’s the official synopsis for Season 4 of ‘Stranger Things’: “It's been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn't made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”

Volume 1 of ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 will be streaming exclusively on Netflix on Friday, May 27.
