'Stranger 2': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about the sequel to the popular K-drama

'Stranger 2' is the sequel to the popular K-drama 'Stranger' starring Cho Seung-woo and Bae Doo-na in lead roles

'Bimilui Soop 2', whose literal translation means 'Forest of Secrets', is all set to premiere as 'Stranger 2' and will take over the slot that was previously occupied by the popular K-drama 'It's Okay to Not be Okay' starring Kim Soo-hyun, Seo Ye-ji and Oh Jung-se. The first season concluded on July 30, 2017, and the first script reading of the sequel took place on January 13. 'Stranger 2' will be followed by 'Start-Up' starring Bae-Suzy and Nam Joo-hyuk.

Release date: 

'Stranger 2' is set to premiere on August 15 and originally airs on tvN on Saturdays and Sundays at 9 pm KST in South Korea and can be streamed on Netflix.

Plot: 

Season 1 recap: 

Hwang Shi-mok (Cho Seung-woo) who cannot feel emotions like others after a brain surgery that was performed on him as a child is now a prosecutor who is also an outcast among his peers. He also shoots straight and is one of the very few prosecutors left in the state who is not corrupt. This prosecutor turns witness when a dead body gets thrown in his path and as a result, he meets detective Han Yeo-Jin (Bae Doo-Na). The two then work together to solve a serial murder case and also fight corruption. 

Season 2: 

In the second season, we will see prosecutor Hwang Shi-mok and detective Han Yeo-Jin partner up again and this time, they are expected to investigate a case surrounded by secrets. What has changed this time is the tension between prosecutors and detectives as the former -- including prosecutor Woo Tae-ha (Choi Moo-sung) -- want discretionary power over investigation while the later led by Choi Bit (Jeon Hye-ji) want independence and complete authority over investigations without any interference from the prosectors.

Cast: 

Cho Seung-woo as Hwang Shi-mok

Actor Cho Seung-woo portrays the role of prosecutor Hwang Shi-mok in 'Stranger 2'. He was also a part of 'Stranger', and his most recent drama was 'Life', a medical drama which aired on JTBC. 

Bae Doo-na as Han Yeo-jin

Bae Doo-na reprises her role as detective Han Yeo-jin in the show and the most recent of her works is the Netflix original 'Kingdom 2'. She was also a part of the popular zombie apocalypse period drama's first part. She was also a part of the anthology 'Persona' led by IU. 

Choi Moo-sung as Woo Tae-ha

Actor Choi Moo-sung will play the role of the star prosecutor Woo Tae-ha, who opposes Choi Bit and wants the prosecution to have control over the investigation procedure. Actor Moo-sung is well-known for a variety of roles including 'Arthdal Chronicles', 'Hospital Playlist', 'Prison Playbook' and 'Mr. Sunshine' among others. 

Jeon Hye-ji as Choi Bit 

Actor Jeon Hye-ji portrays the role of the big-shot police officer Choi Bit who is pushing for independence from the prosecution in the investigation. Hye-ji is well known for her roles in shows such as 'Misty' and 'Search: WWW'. She was also seen in 'Ashfall' and 'The Beast' among others. 

Director: 

'Stranger' was directed by Ahn Gil-ho, who is currently working on Park Bo-gum's 'Record of Youth'. The sequel is hence taken over by Park Hyun-suk who had previously worked on shows such as 'Uncontrollably Fond'. The writer of the show remains Lee Soo-Yeon, who also wrote 'Life'.

Trailer: 

The show's teaser hints at how Shi-mok and Yeo-jin will unearth buried secrets amid tenuous circumstances. The short promo introduces the main players Shi-mok, Yeo-jin, Choi Bit and Tae-ha and leaves the rest to the viewer's imagination.
