'Stargirl' Season 1 Episode 4: Wildcat is 'badass', fans say she should be the main character
After the dark episode last week, this week's episode of 'Stargirl' was a tad lighter. We got to meet Yolanda Montez (Yvette Monreal) aka the new Wildcat and learn about her upsetting backstory. Like every other teenager in love, Yolanda sent private photos to her boyfriend, Henry King (Jake Austin Walker). After the photos were leaked by a conniving classmate, Yolanda prefers to stay by herself and avoid everyone. Her parents believe that she is a disgrace to the family, and seem to have grounded her permanently.
Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) sees a potential superhero in her and recruits her to be a part of the Justice Society Of America. She gives Yolanda the Wildcat suit and latter becomes accustomed to it. After much wall-climbing and pondering whether she should kill her ex, Yolanda decides that she doesn't want to be a superhero and wants to be herself. At the end of the episode, she gives an emotional speech to her parents, who are in no mood to listen to her and tell her to go to her room. And so, Yolanda decides to be a Wildcat.
Many fans are more intrigued by Yolanda than Stargirl. "Liking Yolanda better than Stargirl," a fan wrote while another posted, "Yolanda Montez AKA Wildcat II was awesome. Her team-up and friendship with Stargirl is perfection. #DCStargirl #Stargirl."
"The show is really hitting its stride and I felt they did the recruitment of Wildcat in fantastic fashion. Yolanda is definitely one of my favorites after this episode. Doctor Midnight recruited next week? Sign me up for that," a fan tweeted.
The costume of Wildcat impressed fans as well. "Those costumes are badass! Yolanda is Wildcat," a fan wrote. "I love the #Wildcat costume on #Stargirl so much. Also? @YvetteMonreal is just so perfect as Yolanda," another tweeted.
Meanwhile, fans slammed her parents for not standing up for her. "What the.....Yolanda's family is cold-blooded! I was expecting them to be forgiving and welcome her with open arms and apologize but damn...that's how its gonna be?? Sad but im sure some families are like that. Can't wait to see her show her family!"
'Stargirl' airs on Tuesdays at 8 pm on The CW.
