Saru (Doug Jones) does a rather strange thing in the latest episode of 'Star Trek: Discovery'. He chooses Tilly to be his Number One, and not Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin). Let's recap the events of the previous episode: Book (David Ajala) returned and sent his ship along with his cat Grudge over to the Discovery. Apparently, he had been busy seeking out a black box that might give Burnham some clues into discovering how the Burn happened. The Federation has to put out several fires in the present, and couldn't spare Discovery for a rescue mission. Saru told Burnham that he wasn't going to allow her for a rescue mission. However, Burnham, being Burnham, did not back down, and took Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) with her. Of course, that did not turn out well.
While everything worked out well, as Book is saved, Burnham landed in trouble, for doing the wrong things for the right reason, and this creates a chasm between her and Saru. Saru said that he could no longer trust her. Not just this, he relieved her duties as Number One, and he is quite pained to do so. He has never had reason to distrust her, but unfortunately, now he is forced to, he says.
And so, fans are furious with Saru for choosing lovable and amiable Tilly as Number One. Tilly hasn't had any command experience and this could be a rather fatal choice. "With all due respect, I think Saru should have picked Grudge to be his new Number One! #SpaceCatte #StarTrekDiscovery," a fan tweeted.

"Too upset by this decision... it makes absolutely ZERO sense. Saru is a cautionary tale in making terrible command decisions. Admiral Vance should take that ship immediately. Remember, Saru was never meant to be the captain of Discovery. #StarTrekDiscovery," another tweeted.

"Saru should definitely take the top spot for worst captain in trek history. Since season 1 he has been 3 steps behind Michael Burnham. His rank after her demotion is the only reason she has to answer to him. I don’t know how Lorca chose him as his #1 #StarTrekDiscovery," another tweeted.
