Has Donna Brazile leaked debate questions to Biden? Internet fears repeat of 2016 'fraud' involving Clinton

While former Democratic National Committee interim chair Donna Brazile has already confessed that leaking town hall questions to Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign was a "mistake I will forever regret," unforgiving social media critics have brought it to the forefront once again just hours before the highly-anticipated debate between President Donald Trump and his Democratic challenger Joe Biden scheduled at 9 pm ET.

“My job was to make all our Democratic candidates look good, and I worked closely with both campaigns to make that happen,” Brazile wrote in an essay for Time magazine in 2017. “But sending those emails was a mistake I will forever regret.”

What happened in 2016

A batch of emails obtained by Wikileaks -- from the Gmail account of Clinton's campaign manager John Podesta -- appeared to show that Brazile gave the 2016 Democratic presidential hopeful a heads up about a question just a day before she faced socialist candidate Bernie Sanders at a primary debate. On October 11, 2016, Brazile released a statement declaring: “As it pertains to the CNN debates, I never had access to questions and would never have shared them with the candidates if I did.”

Wikileaks released more emails from Brazile to the Clinton campaign that tipped it off about a question on the 'Flint water crisis' she would likely be asked by a woman from the Michiganian city. And in fact, a woman did ask about the water crisis situation at the next debate. What's more? Brazile also told the campaign how Clinton would be asked about the death penalty at a separate town hall, and then wrote: "I'll send a few more."

Following the bombshell revelations, CNN dropped Brazile as a contributor. Meanwhile, Brazile tried to brush the documents aside by saying they were "misinformation." She later noted in her Time essay that the emails had undoubtedly widened the divide between Clinton supporters and Sanders supporters, and claimed the "Russians" had achieved their objective by "stealing" the emails.

“By stealing all the DNC’s emails and then selectively releasing those few, the Russians made it look like I was in the tank for Secretary Clinton,” she wrote. “Despite the strong, public support I received from top Sanders campaign aides in the wake of those leaks, the media narrative played out just as the Russians had hoped, leaving Sanders supporters understandably angry and sowing division in our ranks.”

Nonetheless, pro-Trump Twitterati seemed to have a field day at the expense of the former DNC strategist's 2016 blunder. "Now that she's a Fox News employee... has Donna Brazile leaked the debate questions to Biden yet?" comedian Tim Young tweeted.

"Now that Chris Wallace has finalized his debate questions, how soon before he leaks them to Donna Brazile to give to Sleepy Joe?" one user added. "@FoxNews has Donna Brazile on tonight as an expert analyst for the debate on Tuesday. That's right, the same Donna Brazile who perpetrated debate fraud in 2016 by giving the questions in advance to Hillary Clinton. In case you had any question about the joke FNC has become," lawyer David Wohl wrote.

"Joe Biden took the day off to practice for the debates... He’s going over the questions Donna Brazile emailed to him," another user chimed in.

"Word on the street is that @JoeBiden got tonight's debate questions in advance - per @KXEL1540," conservative columnist Todd Starnes wrote.

"This is troubling and needs to be immediately investigated if true - Sleepy Joe was given debate questions. @donnabrazile gave @HillaryClinton
debate questions, and it worked. It contributed to helping her secure the nomination over @BernieSanders," entrepreneur William del Pilar added.
