'South Park' is the latest in the list of shows to make a pandemic special. The hour-long episode comes as big, celebratory news for fans who have been waiting for new episodes of 'South Park' to drop anytime now since the last season ended in December last year. But with creators choosing to make it a pandemic special, the show is going to get as relevant as it can get.

And if we have learnt anything from watching the 307 episodes of 23 seasons of 'South Park', it is that it will be satire top-notch where reality always hits differently on the show. Here's everything we know about the upcoming 'South Park' special.

Release date

The pandemic special episode will air on Comedy Central on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at 8 pm ET/PT.

Plot

The 'South Park' special will be titled '2020 Problems'. According to a news release from Comedy Central for the pandemic special: "Randy comes to terms with his role in the Covid-19 outbreak as the on-going pandemic presents continued challenges to the citizens of South Park. The kids happily head back to school but nothing resembles the normal that they once knew — not their teachers, not their homeroom, not even Eric Cartman."

Cast

Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone voice most of the male protagonists of 'South Park', with Parker voicing Stan Marsh and Eric Cartman and Matt Stone voicing Kyle Broflovski and the muffled and indiscernible speech of Kenny McCormick.

Creators

Trey Parker and Matt Stone are the co-creators of 'South Park' and will be writing the special. Since the show aired its first episode in 1997, the duo has written, directed and edited every episode. Along with Parker, Stone, Anne Garefino and Frank C Agnone II will be executive producing. Eric Stough, Adrien Beard, Bruce Howell, Jack Shia and Vernon Chatman are producers. Chris Brion is the creative director of South Park Digital Studios.

In the trailer for the upcoming special, we can see Randy prepare for a Pandemic Special, presumably as a sale at Tegridy Farms. On the other hand, Cartman is concerned about going back to school to "that slavery". He goes to Kyle's house to air his troubles. "Dude get out of my house. You're spreading germs," Kyle replies, showing how many people are anxious about physical proximity these days.

Where to watch

Comedy Central will debut the pandemic-themed episode at 8 pm ET with two encore airings at 9 pm and 10 pm. The episode will be available to stream on South Park Studios, CC.com and the Comedy Central App after it airs on the West Coast. It will also be available to stream on HBO Max 24 hours after it premieres.
