Presidential Debate 2020: Biden mocked for checking watch during event, Internet says it's 'past his bedtime'

'Biden just made the same mistake Bush senior did, never check your watch during a debate period always a bad omen,' warned a viewer

The second and final debate between Trump and former vice-president Joe Biden on Thursday, October 22, in Tennessee had both leaders commenting on the topic of climate change, coronavirus, the much-awaited Covid-19 vaccine's availability and many more topics. The evening started relatively calmly, with the rivals making their closing arguments to the nation amid a pandemic that has killed more than 220,000 Americans and infected millions more, including the president.

While Trump said 'We are rounding the corner' in relation to coronavirus, Biden struck back with “220,000 deaths. If you hear nothing else I say tonight, hear this. Anyone who is responsible for that many deaths should not remain as president of the United States.” You'd think Biden may have had the audience eating out his palm with this assessment of the situation, instead, the presidential candidate invited a round of trolling across social media for checking his watch during the debate. 

It happened while moderator Kristen Welker began to ask Biden and Trump questions regarding climate change, Biden lifted his shirt sleeve up and checked his watch for a quick moment. As Welker told both the candidates that 'we're running out of time' Biden looked at his watch to confirm the same, Daily Caller reports. 

Many social media users had taken to the comments section to compare a similar moment when former POTUS George Bush Sr had checked his own watch in 1992 during a debate with former president Bill Clinton and billionaire Ross Perot. Bush had received a lot of backlash for doing so as people felt he was showing his impatience.

Biden who also did the same thing has been mocked across platforms like Twitter. One such user shared, "He got tired in a debate, how he can run a country? i always see the reaction of @DrBiden at the end of every ceremony, she is very happy when see him not doing much mistakes, she always expect him to do mistakes or forgets something. He is not ready to be a president."

Another user commented, "Hahaha get f**ked! Biden was hot garbage and got creamed tonight! that watch check photo will go down in history as the 'get me the f**k out of this beating ASAP' photo." Yet another user chimed in and shared, "ONLY those who need a reason to defend Joe Biden & his horrible debate! Why check the watch so often? Someone giving him the answers he needs? Or did he have somewhere else to be? Maybe a rally with 10 people & half are Secret service? Crying liberals are my favorite! #Trump2020!"

"Biden just made the same mistake Bush senior did, never check your watch during a debate period always a bad omen," wrote yet another user who referred to the same actions made by Bush senior in 1992. Another user pointed out, "Oops past his bed time - actually he made me tired watching him the whole night." There were some social media users who did support Biden though and said, "I don’t blame him. Probably wondering how long he’s going to have to stand there with Trump."

Another pointed out, "Yeah, Joe was counting down to all his lies. I would check my watch as well. Trump is such an embarrassment for the country."

We had earlier reported that Trump, who was more restrained in this debate compared to the first one held last month, lashed out at Biden saying he and his family received millions from foreign countries while he was in the office of the vice-president. Biden hit back at the president saying he did not take a penny from any foreign source.

He counter-accused Trump over a recent report that the latter keeps a bank account in China which was previously undisclosed.
