Snoop Dogg's mom forced him to apologize to Gayle King post-Kobe Bryant fallout: 'I raised you better than that'

Rapper Snoop Dogg revealed that he was chastised by his mother Beverly Tate for his comments berating Gayle King after she spoke about rape allegations against late NBA star Kobe Bryant in an ongoing interview a few weeks ago.

The 48-year-old was seen on Red Table Talk on Wednesday where he revealed that Tate was upset with him for denouncing King. King had asked WNBA icon, Lisa Leslie, about Kobe Bryant's 2003 rape allegations and how it had impacted his overall legacy post his death on January 26. Leslie is known to be one of Bryant's closest friends.

Snoop Dogg shared, "She didn't say I was wrong she just said, 'You know I raised you better than that. You're a representation of us. Every woman that ever crossed your life, you're a representation of that'- so I got it." He shared that after the conversation with his mother, he immediately took to social media to apologize to King about his comments.

"I didn't tell my team, I didn't go to my publicist, I just did it. The apology is authentic. It's sincere and I'm really sorry … just man up and deal with it. I don't mind being checked. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong," Snoop added. He also shared that his actions against King were opposite to the religious upbringing that he had with Tate.

"My mother raised me in church and she raised me to respect women. It was just certain things that she said to me that made me feel like a little kid. And when your momma can make you feel like a little kid, you know you got to get right. I didn't feel grown. I didn't feel like Snoop Dogg the rapper, I felt like Snoopy," he continued.

The 'Drop it like its hot' singer also said that while he received support from many colleagues, they too were not comfortable with his outburst. "When this thing happened with Gayle, I got calls from Tyler Perry, Puff Daddy, Van Jones, powerful Black men,' he said on the Facebook Watch show. 'And they didn't bash me. They just was, "Brotha, we got your back. But we think that you … could have went about it a little different."
