Slain Kaylin Gillis' dad Andrew hopes alleged killer Kevin Monahan 'dies in jail' as court denies bail
HEBRON, NEW YORK: Kaylin Gillis' father, Andrew, has voiced his wishes for his daughter's killer to "die in jail." Kaylin was tragically killed after being shot in upstate New York when she and her friends mistakenly entered the wrong driveway.
Kevin Monahan, the accused, was detained without bail on Wednesday, April 19, a decision that was appreciated by Andrew Gillis, who is still grieving the death of his 20-year-old daughter. Andrew along with Kaylin's boyfriend, Blake Walsh, was in attendance in the packed courtroom. Washington County Supreme Court Judge Adam Michelini presided over the bail hearing.

'I just hope to God that he dies in jail'
Andrew called his daughter "a victim of circumstance." "Their friend that they were going to see was a half a mile down the road, and I heard a lot of people say that this man’s driveway is wide at the base and it looks like a road," he said after Monahan’s bail hearing. "For this man to sit on his porch and fire at a car with no threat is just … (it) angers me so badly, and I just hope to God that he dies in jail," he told reporters. "Kaylin deserves justice."
'Kaylin’s been shot'
The devastated father had to stop several times during his speech on Wednesday to compose himself. He recounted how he became aware of the shooting from Blake's mother, recalling her words, "I just got a call from Blake, and he’s hysterical." "Shortly after, we received a call from her friend, and she said to us, 'I don’t know how to tell you this, but Kaylin’s been shot.'" When he arrived at the location, Monahan had reportedly locked himself inside his residence with a gun. "My wife and I ended up going to the sheriff’s substation and that’s when we find out, about 45 minutes to an hour, that she had passed," he said.
Kaylin Gillis dreamt of being a marine biologist
Andrew described his daughter as a "smart, kind, loving" young woman who wanted to be a marine biologist or veterinarian. "Kaylin’s two younger sisters … are going to have to grow up without their older sister," the father added through tears. "My wife Angel is going to have to go through the rest of her life without her baby girl."
