After the bombshell report by The New York Times on President Donald Trump’s tax evasion, his son Donald Trump Jr defended his father on Fox News. As per the NYT report, Trump paid $750 in federal income taxes in 2016, the year he won the presidency and another $750 during his first year in office.

Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade at one point asked Trump Jr about the allegations made in the NYT report and enquired, "you guys' organization have $300 million in loans due over the next three years — what can you tell us about this story?" Trump Jr answered, "Listen, it's ridiculous, my father's paid tens of millions of taxes. If he does things in certain years where you get depreciation, where you get the write-off, where you get historical tax credits."

He described how his organization turned the old Washington DC post office into Trump International Hotel Washington and said, “That was literally a government contract. We bid against every hotel company in the world, historical tax credits that you use to offset tax payments for taking the risk to build that. That was done under the Obama administration. It literally took an act of Congress to get it done. So with that comes historical tax credits. That's the reality. People don't understand what goes into a business.”

He attacked the NYT article as well as The Atlantic article which alleged that Trump disrespected the military. As per Trump Jr, the NYT article puts up a selective picture and gives Joe Biden an attack line before the September 29 debate. "If only they spent as much time looking for maybe, I don't know, Hunter Biden's tax returns and the Biden family issues, where Hunter's taking money from a known associate of Vladimir Putin," he added.

However, as reported, many Trump supporters targetted his Democratic rival Joe Biden's son after the explosive NYT report. Recently, a New York Post article said that Hunter, 50, allegedly sent "thousands of dollars" to people who may have been involved in Eastern European prostitution and sex trafficking rings citing claims from a GOP report released on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, by Senate Republicans.

Going by the explosive allegations, his company Rosemont Seneca Thornton allegedly received a $3.5M wire from Elena Baturina — a Russian billionaire and the widow of former Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov — on Valentine's Day in 2014. Trump Jr tweeted on September 28, "Hunter Biden received a $3.5 million wire transfer from Elena Baturina, the billionaire widow of Yury Luzhkov, the former mayor of Moscow a known associate of Vladimir Putin. Where are our fearless 'journalists' now that there’s a real Russia connection?” Other Trump supporters also attacked Hunter.

However, the Internet was seen defending Hunter. One user said, "All these Hunter Biden people seem to be forgetting that it's his father who's running for President, not him. But hey. If you want to see his taxes, show us Junior's, Ivanka's, Eric's, Tiffany's, their spouses' and partners taxes first. Fair is fair. Right, Republicans?" Another said, "I bet Hunter Biden will share his taxes before any of the kids in the Trump family (especially Jared)."

Another commented, "Since  Republican inquiry report that came out just last week said that this whole Hunter Biden thing doesn't hold water, I'm not sure why you keep trying to push this. Maybe trying to distract from trump's very real taxes? Or rather LACK of paying his taxes?" One user said, "Hunter Biden isn't running for office, but if you're going to insist on seeing his taxes we should also see Don Jr's, Ivanka's, Eric's, and Tiffany's. Let's get it all out in public.” One claimed, "GOP led senate found that Hunter Biden was found doing nothing wrong. Minimum wage fast food workers paid more in taxes than Trump in 12 of the last 15 years. There’s a difference."
