It’s official. ‘Sex Education’, Netflix’s critically-acclaimed teen comedy series, is coming back for season three. The Netflix UK & Ireland Twitter account shared a video on February 10 featuring Alistair Petrie, who plays headteacher Groff on the show, confirming the news.

In the video, Petrie, as himself, takes viewers on a tour as he introduces characters from the show in the form of paintings in what looks like one of the many hallways of the fictional Moordale High School where the show is set. “Hello there. I am Alistair Petrie, also known as Principal Groff,” he says, adding, “But today, I’m going to be an art historian, as we examine this exquisite gallery.”

He introduces the portrait of the show’s protagonist Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield) as an “arousing wheel of brie”. In a similar fashion, he introduces Eric (Ncuti Gatwa), Lily (Tanya Reynolds), Jackson (Kedar Williams-Stirling), and Jean (Gillian Anderson). Finally, he moves to a portrait of Eric and Adam (Connor Swindells), and says, “Ah, the pièce de résistance: Eric and Adam. I wonder what is in store for these two cherubs? Well, I suppose you’ll have to find out in season 3, won’t you?”

Speaking about Eric’s romantic conundrum vis-à-vis Adam and Rahim (Sami Outalbali) to The Hollywood Reporter last month, the show’s creator Laurie Nunn said, “The one thing that I really wanted to do in series two with Eric is I wanted him to have a very joyous story. I wanted him to have a lot of agency and feel kind of wanted and desired and have love as a real option, because I think he went through such a tough time in series one and he's such a joyous character that we just want to see him sort of thrive. So that was a very conscious choice, but at the same time, I think he’s kind of struggling with what his heart wants and what his head is telling him. At any age, those choices are difficult, let alone when you're a teenager."

Nunn added, "With Adam, his storyline has come from young gay men that I have known in my life who've had an Adam in their life. So I think there's real truth to the cliché, but we wanted to dig deeper into that and really explore how complicated that is and how potentially damaging that could be.”

'Sex Education' features an ensemble cast that includes Emma Mackey, Aimee Lou Wood, Patricia Allison, and Mikael Persbrandt. The second season of the series was dropped recently in January on the streaming platform.

No release date for season three of ‘Sex Education’ has been announced yet. Nor is there any information on when the third season will go into production.
