In the third episode of 'Sex Education', Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey) couldn't bring herself to tell Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield) the truth about how she felt. Then we saw Eric meet Adam Groff (Connor Swindells) after a long time, but because he was on a date with Rahim; he couldn't really resolve what had happened in the past. In episode four, we see things turn around for both of them. Maeve finally built up the courage to tell Otis that she liked him and Eric finds himself being invited for a night stroll by Adam. Of course, he thinks to himself "This is how I am going to die", but he accompanies Adam anyway.

Both the events took place after Maeve and Adam continue to see people that they love dating another person. Let's take Maeve. She has always had people bail on her, abandon her at the most important time or let her down. Be it her mother or her brother, Maeve hasn't had a relationship that she could depend on. One of the main reasons she was attracted to Otis was because he was one of the first persons that Maeve could depend on. She has found a friend in Aimee Gibbs (Aimee Lou Wood), for sure. However, it was Otis who broke the defensive shell that Maeve had built around herself.

On the day that Maeve confessed to Otis, she had an important quiz and this was a first for her. She had never been a part of a quiz team before and did not realize that it took teamwork to win a game. Moordale Highschool did win this round, however, her teammates decide that they do not want her in the team because she didn't understand how a quiz team works. Just when she is dealing with the disappointment, Otis tells her that he has lost her sister.

Before the quiz, Maeve's mother suddenly brought over her baby sister Elsie to be taken care of because she had an important interview. So Maeve asked Otis for help, but when he got busy with a sex clinic appointment, Elsie wakes up and walks away from the baby trolley. This aggravates Maeve further and she rages about how everyone disappoints her and lets her down. They do find Elsie in the Headmaster's office, but because of her heightened emotions, Maeve ends up confessing to Otis that she did like him in the past. She tells him that she was confused and worried, so she never brought it up before.

This happens to be the day that Otis and Ola (Patricia Allison) had finally decided to go all the way. So Maeve's confession only confuses Otis, and when he does end up at Ola's place, he is not in the right frame of mind to spend time with Ola. Despite Ola telling him that taking it slow is fine, and they do not have to go all the way right then, he doesn't agree. Just when things are getting interesting, he ends up checking his text and this pisses Ola off. In fact, she is so angry that the next day that they meet, she gives Otis an ultimatum. She tells him that he would have to choose between her and Maeve.

Similarly, Eric is surprised to find Adam at his window, throwing pebbles to wake him up. Adam coincidentally saw Eric with Rahim, and twice at that. So when he meets Ola, who is in the same school as he was and Eric is, he asks her about Rahim and she tells him that Eric and Rahim are seeing each other. This clearly makes Adam rethink how he had so far conversed with Eric. When Eric and Adam step out in the middle of the night, the two end up spending time at a junkyard breaking different things and surprisingly, the two end up talking.

While until now Adam either bullied Eric or just approached him with an interest to get physical, he now shared things with Eric. He explained how he felt that army school was better than being home and he even shared his drill routine with Eric. The two end their overnight date on a kiss, but when Eric arrives at school he sees Rahim. Eric's interest in Rahim seems momentary, which becomes apparent just minutes after when Rahim asks Eric if he would be Rahim's boyfriend. Eric is indecisive and when he hesitates, Rahim tells him to take his time.

Will time tell him who to choose? Time is, however, the one thing that Otis doesn't have.

'Sex Education' episodes can be streamed on Netflix from January 17.
