Fans have noted that three actors—Emma Mackey, who plays the Nobel Prize-winning Barbie, Ncuti Gatwa, who portrays a different version of Ken, and Connor Swindells, who plays an intern in the film—are reuniting following Netflix's hugely popular series 'Sex Education'.

Who is bidding adieu to ‘Sex Education’?

Emma Mackey

Emma Mackey who plays Maeve Riley on the show has confirmed that she won’t be returning to the show after season four. According to Deadline Emma shared that she doesn’t think she will be in season five adding that she has said goodbye to Maeve. The actress also mentioned that she would only make a ‘sporadic’ appearance in season four.

Mackey also said "It's just always tricky, it's different when you're playing a character that is sort of stuck in time. You know, we're playing 17-year-olds, and we're all almost 30, it is a bit weird. It's a blessing because it is a launchpad and it is something that has given us opportunities in different ways but it's something that I want to gracefully exit from, and be happy that it exists and protect it and enjoy it in the time that it has existed in, but yeah, it needs to be left alone now I think. We can all move on and take what we learned from Sex Ed as well because it has been a school, quite literally, for all of us. It's just wonderful to have had that education and to have that baptism of fire and to have just been flung into that whole world. I think it's made us stronger."

Ncuti Gatwa

Ncutie Gatwa, who played Eric on the show was not only Otis’ best friend but also a proud queer and sadly won’t be returning to the franchise after season four. According to TV Insider, the actor was roped in as the 15th ‘Doctor Who’ shared a picture of his goodbye to Eric on his social media. "Last day. Last time. Bye bubs, thank you for all the lessons and for all the strength," he wrote.

Simone Ashley

Simone Ashley who played Olivia on the show won’t be returning for season four as she starred on Netflix’s ‘Bridgerton’ as Kate Sharma and will be reprising her role as Kate for season three of ‘Bridgerton’. She confirmed that she will be back for the third season during an interview with Deadline stating, "We're going to be back! Kate and Anthony [Jonathan Bailey] are just getting started. In season two there was a lot of push and pull between Kate and Anthony, there were complications with the family, and then they find each other towards the end. I think everything is just starting. I'd like to see Kate just let go a bit more and play more in season three and kind of swim in that circle of love together. I think they both deserve it." In April 2022, Simone during her interview with This Morning confirmed that she won’t be back for ‘Sex Education season four.

Patricia Allison

Patricia Allison who played Ola on the show was the first cast member to announce her exit from the show stating "I know, I absolutely have loved being on Sex Education so so much, and playing Ola but unfortunately, I won't be joining the team for season four. I'm so sorry to have to break that to you guys but, I'm just going to be doing some other little things, some other opportunities have come up. So, I've been doing it for three years and I've, like, genuinely loved it."

Tanya Reynolds

Tanya Reynolds who played Lily on the show and Ola’s love interest won’t be returning to the franchise for season four as well stating that she wanted to say goodbye to her character on a high note. She said, "I think that for Lily, her storyline was just wrapped up quite nicely at the end of season three. So she's got no loose ends to tie up, she had quite a happy ending. At the end of last season, everyone kind of gets scattered, and I think that's just a good opportunity to bring in some new characters. I will absolutely miss [her]. I love, love Lily with my whole entire being and I had the best time on those three seasons, and I will miss it for sure. I will miss Lily and I will miss the gang. But it just kind of feels very right. It feels like time. It felt like it was my time."

Rakhee Thakrar

Rakhee Thakrar who played Emily Sands on the show confirmed that she won’t be back for season four. According to Radio Times, the actress shared with Daily Star Sunday, she said, "I'm not part of the new series. I can't really talk about why. But I'm so proud of the show and grateful to have been part of something so important. There is nothing bad about Sex Education."
