Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that The Russo Brothers will not be returning to direct the next 'Avengers' movies that were announced during SDCC 2022. The head honcho, in a short video clip posted by Deadline on Twitter, said that the duo would be replaced by someone new.

"They're not connected to it," Feige explained. "They have been very direct about that. We love them and they love us, and we want to find something new together," he added. Apart from 'Avengers: Endgame', the duo co-directed three blockbusters — 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' (2014), 'Captain America: Civil War' (2016), and 'Avengers: Infinity War' (2018).

‘The Sandman’ trailer released by Netflix, fans say, ‘All sorts of yes!'

There are a string of other new releases, including 'Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania', 'Secret Invasion', 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3', 'Echo', 'Loki season 2', 'The Marvels', 'Blade', 'Ironheart', 'Agatha: Coven of Chaos', 'Daredevil: Born Again', 'Captain America: New World Order', and 'Thunderbolts'. The movies line-up includes 'Fantastic Four', 'Avengers: The Kang Dynasty' and 'Avengers: Secret Wars'. There were mixed responses from fans over the news of The Russo Brothers not helming the 'Avengers' movies in Phase 5.

"Bummer. They expressed interest in secret wars," one of the tweets read. "Oof phase 4 was mostly awful and now no Russo Avengers to look forward to," another remarked. "I enjoyed their recent movies, but I'm glad he's seeking new talent. #SDCC," a fan tweeted.

"Thank f***! I mean Jesus wept they suck. They've only made 1 good movie CA:WS. And I say this as someone who just watched the grey man. (Psst. Other than some of the action scenes, it was not good," a tweet said. "Not sure if you are joking or not, but I actually agree with you. MCU has been a colossal bust this year. If it wasn't for TG:M, it would have been a very disappointing summer at the movies," a comment said. "Wait so that means they prob ain‘t adapting the 80s Secret Wars which the Russos would have liked to do!" a fan wrote.

Earlier, in an interview with the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast, the co-directors addressed recent theories of returning to the MCU to direct a rumored 'Secret Wars' project. When asked if they were talking to Marvel Studios, Joe Russo said that "there are no conversations. "We just always answer truthfully when we're asked, you know, 'would you work with them?' Of course, we would, we adore them. 'What would you like to do?' Secret Wars, was our favorite series growing up. And I think it always gets turned into a bigger story, but to be clear, there is no story," he said.
