Spoiler alert for Season 1 Episode 4 titled 'Family Portrait'

Just when we thought Peter (Ryan Kwanten) was the man behind the death of the Cherry Falls Jane Doe sisters, 'Family Portrait' throws a spanner in the works by reintroducing the creepy photographer, Luther (Patrick Keating) back in the storyline. There is a little more to the backstory about Peter using his old home as a hideout after being on the run. Accused of killing the sisters, Peter vamooses from Elsie's (Jordan Alexander) foster home while Harper(Juliette Lewis) finds out that he isn't the teen's father.

One of the scenes in 'Family Portrait' sees Peter get close to one of the sisters after he gouges the sneaky photographer's eye for spying on them. This concerns the other who abuses Peter calling him a black hole (she's also high on Magic Mushroom Tea) and scoots off deeper into the woods.

Peter and the sister attempt to find her, but they end up having sex instead. Meanwhile,  the other one runs straight into a  house in the woods belonging to the photographer. The storyline moves to the present when Harper receives an anonymous call and she follows the lead only to realize the man was Luther who still has the photographs of the Jane Doe sisters.

And this further complicates the plot. Reintroducing Luther is an interesting move while Peter is still fighting his demons at the other end. The concrete evidence of one of the sisters dying due to a gunshot wound would mean Peter may have killed her since he was shown carrying a firearm.

'Family Portrait' may have been a largely quiet episode but it is the final moment that leaves a major question mark.

What are your thoughts on the photographer being the killer?
