'Run' Episode 1 'might be last time' fans will watch HBO show as they call the characters 'messy as fu*k'
Whether it’s worth watching or not is subject to fair debate, but HBO’s latest dark comedy thriller ‘Run’, with only an episode under its belt, has managed to get the viewers to do a lot of talking on social media.
The first episode of ‘Run’ introduces us to mother-of-two Ruby Richardson (Merrit Wever) and her former college sweetheart Billy Johnson (Domhall Gleeson) with who she takes off on an adventure, leaving her family behind.
The first episode of ‘Run’ teases the misadventures of two lost adults misled by fantasies, based on a plan made by them years ago when they were still teenagers.
However, the uncertainty and excitement surrounding a new spicy relationship are short-lived as the duo starts contemplating life as adults, thus killing every bit of the fun aspect the first episode showcased in the first few minutes.
Although the viewers seem to have liked the chemistry between Billy and Ruby, they aren’t too convinced with the story arc, as they are calling out the show for throwing a lot of fantasy on their faces.
One fan wrote, “Run on HBO. Might be the last time I watch too bc idk what this is about lol”.
“HBO has some well-regarded programming that requires suspension of disbelief (Westworld, GoT) but tonight’s series premiere of RUN showed a supposed Amtrak train leaving from Grand Central and that, my friends, is just pure fantasy,” added another.
And some, who have called out the show for its unrealism, are asking how one could put up with a couple as annoying as Billy and Ruby.
“I'm watching Run on HBO, and it's beyond unrealistic. How do these messy af people not get put off the train?” expressed an agitated fan.
“Did she just... finger herself in the train bathroom??? Someone explain this run show on hbo”.
Some fans have also noted that the overplayed sexual tension between Billy and Ruby alone couldn’t convince them to watch the show, as they had better expectations from the storyline, given that it has Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s execution gone into it.
“HBO’s #run has two of my favorite actors but I’m not feeling any sexual tension to make me believe the writing here. Why am I supposed to care what happens? They’re not nice to each other or the other people in their lives,” expressed another agitated fan.
‘Run’ airs on Sundays on HBO.
