This article contains spoilers for 'Riverdale' season 4 episode 3: 'Dog Day Afternoon'

It has been a tough time for Cody Kearsley's Moose Mason. His girlfriend, Midge died in the pilot season. His relationship with Kevin Keller was pretty much fluctuating and he had a mental breakdown over his father's atrocious behavior.  In season 3, episode 12, Skeet Ulrich's F.P. Jones unmasks Moose's dad (Simon C. Hussey) as the big bad. Eventually, it is revealed that Major Mason had the hots for Sheriff Keller (Martin Cummins). He was trundled off to the Sisters Of Quiet Mercy in response and suffered the gay conversion "treatment".

Witnessing all this was poor Moose as he tells Kevin he's heading off to Glendale for some healing. "I can't live here. I'm moving to Glendale to stay with my aunt," says Moose in a tearful moment with Kevin at the end of the episode. In 'Dog Day Afternoon', we see him at Stonewall Prep and to Jug's pleasant surprise, he's his roommate.  He explains this was a new start after all the unfortunate series of incidents and he could start off as a clean slate.

But as luck would have it, the school's very own bully, Bret Weston Wallis (Sean Depner) butts head with Jug who promptly pays it back. In retaliation, he distributes copies of the newspaper story that talks about Moose's dad being the Gargoyle King, something Marmaduke (Moose's real name) kept secret. It ends with Jug looking at his distraught friend who is possibly on the verge of having a mental breakdown. Again.

We're pretty sure Jug will have his say and fight for his pal, but for now, it looks like the damage is done.

We feel you, Moose.

'Riverdale' season 4 airs Wednesdays at 8 pm on The CW.
