Madelaine Petsch's Cheryl Blossom has been an integral part of 'Riverdale' since inception. Season four of the teen drama will be premiering a couple of weeks from now and will pick up in the aftermath of the shocking finale from the third season. It hinted that something terrible has befallen Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). However, a Twitter post from Riverdale's showrunner, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, hints that darker times lie ahead for Cheryl as well.

Cheryl has always trodden the tough path in the series. The opening season saw her twin brother, Jason Blossom, being killed off and her trying to get over his death. Season 2 saw her locked up in a convent which attempted to remove her sexuality. The third season was a tad better where she started a relationship with Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan), but coming back to the post, it looks like trouble's brewing. The image by Aguirre-Sacasa shows Cheryl with another image of her merged on top. Next to the picture was the definition of Chimera, which alludes to something a little dark and sinister for the character.

The text reads: "Chimera: A single organism that’s made up of cells from two or more 'individuals'". “That is, it contains two sets of DNA due to placental fusion during development.” This has led to fans crying out to stop torturing the character who's had a rough journey since the show's inception.

"LET HER GO TO THERAPY. STOP TORTURING HER." a fan tweeted in response. Another fan vowed to stand by her, "Cheryl we gon get you outta there", she replied to the post.  For some fans, the craziness factor had pretty much reached the limit. "Can you make this season more grounded, please? Stop with the craziness" wrote one person.

Interestingly, Cheryl's sexuality on the show was talked about as well with strong support pouring in from fans.  "The fact that you made her go through all that and keep torturing her without getting her help or a decent storyline shows how little you care about our community and mental health and it’s honestly sad." a fan said. "torturing lesbian characters isn’t cool" tweeted another.

While Cheryl's storyline is still unclear at the moment, the teasers and hints have given fans a glimpse of what to expect. Support is not in short supply for the actor if the season decides to dish out another rough path for Cheryl Blossom.

'Riverdale' Season 4 will premiere on Wednesday, October 9th at 8 pm ET.
