After four very successful seasons, 'Rita' is returning for one last time to draw curtains on the show. A Danish comedy-drama created by Christian Torpe for Denmark's TV 2, it first aired in 2012. Following the life of the very outspoken high school teacher, the titular Rita, the dramedy looks into life and beyond for the single mother. 

The fifth and final season began airing on June 1, 2020, with the show ending its original run in Denmark on July 20, 2020 and is now coming to Netflix (which distributes it internationally). Here is everything you need to know about the concluding installment.

Season 5 of 'Rita' arrives on Netflix on August 15, 2020.

Plot

The series synopsis for 'Rita': "Following the life of a very outspoken and rebellious woman, Rita is a school teacher who is competent in the classroom, but seems to need a teacher of her own, when it comes to her personal life."

According to the official synopsis for Season 5, be prepared for the chaos to commence. "The demands of running a school strain Hjørdis’s relationships with Rita and Uffe. An old flame re-enters Rita's life. A heartbroken Jeppe returns home."

Dinesen plays the role of the titular Rita, a headstrong and unconventional teacher and single mother, around whom the series is centered. The actress is also best known for her work in the film 'Nynne', 'Copenhagen', 'What We Become', 'Borgen', and 'Min søsters børn alene hjemme'.

Following the success of 'Rita', Lise played the title role in the television mini-series 'Hjørdis', a spin-off of 'Rita'.

The series also stars Carsten Bjørnlund as Rasmus, the headmaster. The actor is known for his work in 'Forbrydelsen', 'The Thing', and 'ID:A'. Nikolaj Groth stars as Jeppe Madsen, Rita's youngest son, Morten Vang Simonsen stars as Ricco Madsen, Rita's oldest son, and Sara Hjort Ditlevsen as Molly Madsen, Rita's daughter. 

Creators 

'Rita' is created by Christian Torpe, who is also known for his work on 'Deliver Us', 'Sam', 'The Exception', and 'Blackbird'. He rose to international fame with 'Rita', for which he was nominated for International Producer of the year and European producer of the year at the Monte Carlo Television Festival. Following the success of Rita, he went on to create and run the TV show based on Stephen King's 'The Mist'.
