'Rick and Morty' Season 4 trailer features maddening universe and a cameo by Mr. Poopybutthole

Before you get to season 4, creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland suggest you catch up on season 3 thoroughly as they decide to make the series more "serialized."
PUBLISHED OCT 8, 2019

It has been a very very long time since we heard from our favorite adult animated series. The last episode of 'Rick and Morty' titled 'The Rickchurian Mortydate' aired on October 1, 2017, and since then, fans have only been catching up on the 31 episodes of the series.

After a long break of two years, the trailer for the upcoming fourth season of 'Rick and Morty' was released much to the delight of the fans.

The trailer begins with a voiceover. "It's been way too long. The smartest Rick and Mortiest Morty in the universe are back. And things are pretty much the same. All f****d up." Well, we aren't we glad that things on 'Rick and Morty' haven't changed much.

Very characteristic of 'Rick and Morty', the trailer shows Morty melting and morphing into different species. Going by the trailer, it looks like their disagreements over letting Morty dictate some of their adventures is still on as Rick says, "This one counts as one of your adventures." He also doesn't look all that happy with this particular adventure, doubtlessly.

And for those who have missed watching the adorable, happy-go-lucky Mr. Poopybutthole, who was first featured in the episode 'Total Rickall', he makes a little cameo in the trailer. He is seen beating up a poor fella - will we see more of him this season?

Season 4 is set to feature a multitude of guest voice actors - Kathleen Turner, Taika Waititi, Sam Neill and Paul Giamatti. The release of the trailer also brought sad news for fans. The series is going to be divided into two parts with the first five episodes releasing in November. In all likelihood though, the second part will be out in 2020.

But before you get on season 4, creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland suggest you catch up on season 3 thoroughly owing to their decision to make the series more "serialized."

"Without giving anything away, we have serialized stuff we check in on now and then that's sprinkled over the top of strong episodic episodes," Roiland was reported saying. "To fans of the show, they're going to want to watch them in order... I would definitely say watch all of season 3 before season 4."

Considering how the show was granted a massive 70-episode deal with Adult Swim in May 2018, there is a lot more to come from the 'Rick and Morty' universe. In that case, time is irrelevant.

'Rick and Morty' returns to Adult Swim on November 10th at 11:30 pm.
