Man who raped and killed Britain's worst pedophile Richard Huckle wanted him to 'feel what those children felt'
A prisoner who killed a "notorious predatory pedophile" in his cell shared that he would have gone on to kill other fellow inmates but was "having too much fun". Richard Huckle, known as Britain's worst pedophile, was raped and strangled to death in his cell by fellow prisoner Paul Fitzgerald in what was a "carefully planned" attack. Fitzgerald wanted Huckle to feel "what all those children felt", Hull Crown Court was told.
Huckle had been serving 22 life sentences for abusing 191 children when he was allegedly attacked in his cell by Fitzgerald. The court was made aware that Fitzgerald who is himself a sex offender had strangled 33-year-old Huckle and had forced a pen up his nose into his brain and sexually assaulted him using a kitchen utensil.
Jurors were told that Huckle was killed in a "prolonged attack designed to humiliate and degrade him" at the HMP Full Sutton in East Yorkshire in October last year. The prosecution barrister Alistair Neil Macdonald QC revealed that the attack by Fitzgerald was also "a form of punishment" for the crimes that Huckle had committed.
The evidence had been presented this morning at Hull Crown Court on the first day of the murder trial though Fitzgerald denies murder. Macdonald shared with the court that Huckle had been killed in his own cell in HMP Full Sutton which is a Category A facility close to Pocklington between 10.30 am and 11 am on October 13.
He shared that Huckle had been stabbed in the neck using a weapon that was made from inserting a screw into a melted toothbrush. He added how an inmate had discovered Fitzgerald strangling Huckle. His hands and feet had been tied and Huckle was face down while he was strangled with a ligature.
Macdonald revealed that there had been a pool of blood around his head. Two prison officers rushed into the cell and found Fitzgerald in the same position with his face up against Huckle's. They told the authorities that the attacker appeared to be whispering into the ear of Huckle though it is not known what he said.
After he was removed from the cell, Fitzgerald spoke to the officers and said, "I think I've killed him, he's dead." The prison staff had tried to revive Huckle and had given him CPR but he was pronounced dead at 12.30 pm. According to a post-mortem, he had died from strangulation using a ligature in the form of the electrical cable sheath.
He had lots of bruises and abrasions over his body and had also been sexually assaulted with a four-inch-long object. A day after the killing, Fitzgerald told the Full Sutton mental health care manager Brennan that he had wanted to kill two or three people but found that he was having "too much fun" with Huckle.
The prosecutor revealed that Fitzgerald wanted to cook bits of the body. He had allegedly told the doctor that he had been having thoughts of killing people and eating them for a long time. Macdonald shared, "He concluded his account by saying that he felt as high as a kite when he had done it and felt amazing and that he would recommend it to anyone."
"He also said that he was only pleading not guilty because the court can send him to hospital," he added. While having an interview with a consultant called Dr. Shenoy, Fitzgerald said that his attack had been 'poetic justice'. He told her, "This is a man who rapes and abuses children for fun. He could have killed them as well. I'm inclined to think he did worse than just raping them."
"When he was laid down with his pants down and he knew what was coming, he did not enjoy it I am sure. I knew what it feels like, but he doesn't. Rape was more about him getting a taste of that."
