‘Real Housewives of Orange County’: Fans call out Kelly Dodd for her 'age-shaming' remarks against Shannon
Kelly Dodd ruffled quite a few feathers when she made some scathing remarks about her fellow housewife Shannon Beador’s hairstyle and age. This season saw Kelly facing allegations of pulling a “sex train”, and the rumors of her pushing her mother down the stairs have resurfaced again, leaving the housewife feeling upset and her guards up.
When the housewives decided to take a trip to Florida, Kelly wasn't keen to join them, but when the hostess/ fellow housewife Braunwyn convinced her, she finally packed her bags and joined the remaining ladies for the fun trip.
We could see Kelly keeping her distance from the rest of the housewives, and towards the end of the first night after some heavy clubbing and partying, when the ladies return to their hotel, Kelly decided to tug on her fellow housewife Shannon’s hair, saying it looked ugly and women beyond 50 shouldn’t be wearing their hair long and suggested that she cut off the ends.
Kelly’s comments didn’t sit well with fans. Several fans took to social media to express their disapproval of her “ageist” comments. A fan tweeted, “Kelly with the age shaming. One day you’re gonna get old too lady #RHOC”.
Another fan wrote, “Kelly Dodd is an ageist asshole. Shannon looks good. #RHOC.”
“Kelly talking about Shannon's hairstyle and age really??????Can someone tell kelly shes too old to be acting like a horny immature teenager u have a teen daughter u keep embarrassing DO BETTER #RHOC,” pointed out a fan.
Another fan shared, “Kelly saying women over 50.....should, shouldn’t wear their hair a certain way is stupid. She can be funny but then ALWAYS goes to far and she’s snot. #RHOC”.
Several fans reminded Kelly that it wasn’t okay to age-shame women. “I’m sick of Kelly and this whole age thing. I’m 33 years old and would love to call her an old desperate hag and see if she would like it. #RHOC”, wrote an angry fan.
Another fan observed, “Kelly is very pretty but she’s not the gift she thinks she is. I wanna see her when she’s in her 50’s which ain’t that far off & see how she looks. I cannot stand anyone who age shames anyone like they’re not gonna grow old #rhoc”.
Kelly released a tweet defending her stance on Shannon’s hair, and clarified that her statement didn’t apply to all women. She wrote, “I was not a fan of Shannon’s hair (or Shannon period) at the time but I didn’t mean to make it sound like it applied for all women. I was more so just fed up with her constant poking and scheming on and off camera. Wear what makes you feel beautiful ladies ❤️ #RHOC”.
A clip released as part of the after-show special shows Kelly defending her remarks against Shannon. Kelly said she wanted her friend to look good and that older women should keep their hair short.
