LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Episode 2 premiered on June 23, 2024 on HBO. The enthralling episode had multiple moments that gripped the audience and glued them to the edge of their seats. The biggest moment perhaps in the episode was the assassination attempt on Rhaenyra Targaryen's (Emma D'Arcy) life.

Criston Cole (Fabian Frankel) begins the episode searching for redemption against Rhaenyra and the blacks who struck the first blow in battle as the young Prince Jaehaerys died due to Daemon Targaryen's  (Matt Smith) sinister plan. He comes up with a conniving plan of his own as he sends Ser Arryk Cargyll (Luke Tittensor) to kill Rhaenyra under the disguise of his twin Ser Erryk Cargyll (Elliott Tittensor).

The plan would have worked if it had not been for an unlikely ally that Rhaenyra Targaryen decided to free. Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno), the white worm spots the twin and takes action to save Rhaenyra's life.

Mysaria is a slave who finds herself in the underbellies of King's Landing and its criminal world away from the royal family. She forms a close equation with Daemon Targaryen.

In the first season of 'House of the Dragon', Mysaria starts as Daemon Targaryen's love interest but after Daemon lies to her about marriage and uses her as a pawn in the psychological chess match for the throne, she leaves him and transforms into someone who has a deep network of spies.

She begins to fight for the small folk and kidnaps Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney). Mysaria asks Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) for gold and demands Otto to bring down the establishments that are forcing children into prostitution.

An irked Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) asks her establishment to be set on fire. She escapes King's Landing unharmed though and is intercepted by Ser Erryk Cargyll in the second season.

Daemon takes her as a prisoner and agrees to free her in return for help. She helps him organize the murder of Prince Jaehaerys by introducing him to Blood (Sam C. Wilson) and Cheese (Mark Stobbart).

Why did Rhaenyra Targaryen free Mysaria?

Rhaenyra is unaware of Daemon's plan but once she gets to know that Daemon was behind the killing of Prince Jaehaerys, she confronts him and they have a huge argument. Daemon frustrated at her behavior leaves without telling anyone.

Daemon had promised to free Mysaria and now with him gone, her fate is unclear. When Rhaenyra meets Mysaria, she has an uneasy equation with Mysaria but decides to honor Daemon's word as the word of her house. She frees Mysaria and asks her to be escorted to safety.

She doesn't know at this time but this is a move that will save her life as Mysaria on her way to the shore spots Ser Arryk Cargyll. Mysaria promised Rhaenyra loyalty and she delivered immediately.

Mysaria doesn't play a major character in the book 'Fire and Blood' so her involvement in the coming episodes is unclear as the character has been adapted differently in the screen version.
