9 stages of getting drunk we all go through
We get drunk and then pass through stages as we drink more and more
Who doesn't like meeting a few friends and heading out to a bar to have a wonderful time? As the night begins, the drinks start coming in and we get lost in the company talking about things and places and ideas with the very people we love. But as the night progresses and the bottles pile up, we start feeling the buzz and then the high. Here, we have the nine stages which almost all of us go through when we go out and get drunk.
#1 First blood
All settled in our seats, we order our drinks and eagerly await its arrival. The waiter soon approaches with our drinks and places it before us. Good times begin at this moment and as we taste the first sip of our drinks, we feel the stress coming down a bit. We get ready for the night ahead.
#2 Buzzed in
A drink goes down and then another. Depending on your capacity, the alcohol starts getting to our heads slightly and before long, the buzz kicks in. The feeling is phenomenal. The drink makes us warm and we start slipping into our comfort zones.
The inhibitions start lowering. We start becoming more and more ourselves and the buzz gradually starts taking over. The night feels beautiful and so do the faces around us. The alcohol has started working and we start enjoying every moment of it.
#3 Friendship assurances
The booze gets to us and we realize how lucky we are to be surrounded by the people we love and the friends who make our lives so much more enjoyable. We know we love them but then comes the time where we feel the irrepressible urge to express our love as well.
So the hugging starts and we tell our friends how much we love them and how lucky we are to have them. The phones come out and we dial the friends who couldn't join us for the evening. And for the next half an hour, we end up calling everyone we love so that they know that we indeed love them.
#4 The dancing shoes and the singing voice
The party has started. We have almost lost our inhibitions and already expressed our love. We are comfortable with our company and are no longer bothered about social etiquettes. Everything is cool and, at this stage, so are we.
The singing begins as the music grows louder. Our voices try to match the one coming from the stereo and though we fail miserably, we love every moment of it. And if the adventurous spirit kicks in with the music then the dance floor is ours too. Time to let out those moves!
#5 Hooking up
Singing and dancing aside, we spot the one over the bar or catch the eye of someone who's been trying to catch ours. A hook-up, then, may become a necessity and we end up in the planning phase. We try to build up the courage or just go for it. Yes or no doesn't matter, an attempt is what counts.
#6 The party doesn't stop
It's already late and we are already drunk but the night still has much to offer. So what if we have office tomorrow or an appointment we can't miss? This is the best night ever and it should go on forever!
#7 Feed me
Drunk, danced, and tired, the body starts grumbling then. 'Feed me', it says. The hunger kicks in and we realize we hadn't had a morsel to eat and we may starve to death (not really) if we don't get the cheeseburger right then. On to food then!
#8 Home sweet home
The journey back home is almost like walking in our sleep. We vaguely remember hailing a cab, passing the buildings and even reaching our bed. But we make it till there and then crash into the sweet oblivion, if not puking our guts out. The problems are postponed until the next day.
#9 Oh God! Never again!
Waking up in hell may seem kinder than waking up with a hangover. The desire for instant death may take over and we swear never to drink that much again. The recovery would take time and our bodies hate us already. 'Why...' we wonder,' do we not learn?' But learning is for another day, the day of the hangover is about survival and we live to drink another day.
