Disorganized people are much more intelligent and creative, says research

Being disorganized clearly has a lot of perks and is actually a sign of an intelligent person

For most of us, we have spent the beginning part of our lives being scolded for being untidy and disorganized. It is the one thing that parents try their best to teach their children which is to be more organized. Most of the time, organized people are believed to be the ones who would be more productive and together as compared to those who are disorganized.

However, a number of experts now believe that it is not true and those who are disorganized are much more creative and intelligent as compared to those who are not.

People who are disorganized and very messy are not necessarily less productive or lazy. According to Eric Abrahamson and David H Freedman, the authors of the book A Perfect Mess: The Hidden Benefits of Disorder, mess isn’t necessarily the absence of order. "A messy desk can be a highly effective prioritizing and accessing system. On a messy desk, the more important, urgent work tends to stay close by and near the top of the clutter, while the safely ignorable stuff tends to get buried to the bottom or near the back, which makes perfect sense."

These are 12 reasons which explain why people with a disorganized mind are much more intelligent:

#12 Know-it-alls

Disorganized people have the need to discover the truth and more often than not, their own brand of truth. These people are extremely scattered but somehow know exactly what they want and what they need to do to get it. They are the ones who will never follow the book but will find ways on how to not follow the book. They are very committed and driven towards their goals.

#11 They think globally

People with a messy and disorganized mind are the ones who think on a global scale and address the macro problems instead of nit-picking through the smaller problems. The global thinker will always see the overall problem for what it is and will judge a problem by its magnitude.

#10 Always learning

Such types of people are always on the go and are constantly learning. A researcher and scientist, Chris Fields, from the Standford University have done a lot of research about people who have a disorganized mind and personality. These individuals are addicted to making powerful insights and observations which they are always learning from. They will always tend to challenge authority and the way of life rather than conform to it.

#9 They are intuitive and extroverted

The Myers-Briggs personality test was formulated and used many years ago to see what personality types were related to specific kinds of people. Disorganized people who take the Myers-Briggs test tend to score highly in areas which are related to being a visionary or someone who sees the macro view of things. They are always looking for new ways to do things as visionaries are always looking for the new.

#8 They cannot focus when they are not interested

Disorganized people normally have a lot of difficulty in school and colleges and not because they lack the intelligence but because they lack the interest. If their teachers are unable to find a creative and interesting way of teaching them, the person will automatically get disinterested. Projects that these people find fascinating will be motivation enough to do an outstanding job.

#7 Losing track of time

Such people will almost never be punctual at least not intentionally. People who are disorganized will constantly lose track of time and will tend to show up to all events and plans late. This is not because they did not care to be on time but probably because they were totally distracted doing something else.

#6 They always want to be around high energy people

These kinds of people always want to be around those who have a lot of energy and zest. Energetic people offer a set of bizarre new experiences which disorganized people find exciting and new. When there is something new to learn or see, disorganized people will grab the chance to do it.

#5 Strong attachment to unrelated things

Disorganized people tend to develop strong attachments to many un-related things especially to a large variety of objects and personalities. Anthropologist Claude Levi-Strauss used the term "bricoleur" to describe these people. These people see a lot of value in diversity and this difference and diversity motivate them to do and achieve things.

#4 They process information through their creative side

Such type of people will never think in straight lines or dimensions. They will always resort to using out-of-the-box ways to deal with their problems and find an appropriate solution. They tend to use their right brain which is the more creative side of dealing with life. Solving problems through a conventional, linear way is just not what these people like to do.

#3 Broad range of interests

These people have a broad range of interests and likes which is forever expanding. They need to be involved in multiple activities simultaneously or else they will get bored. Such kinds of people are always looking for new and exciting endeavors and achieve a lot of joy when they accomplish something unique.

#2 Have high creativity levels

There are multiple normed tests which set to measure creativity which is known as the Torrance series. People who are disorganized tend to get high scores in areas such as storytelling, unusual visualizations, humor, etc. According to the authors and creators of the Torrance series, individuals who score high on the test are most often those who have the ideas for new products and services, who invent.

#1 Score high on verbal IQ test

IQ tests tend to have two major parts: Verbal as well as performance. The verbal part often relates to areas of the brain which looks into global thinking, visions, curiosity, and the what if questioning. Disorganized people tend to do well on the verbal part of the test as they can come up with unique solutions.
