Wendy Williams slams Megyn Kelly for her dig on Jane Fonda, says she did it for ratings
Wendy Williams decided to put forward her views on the entire Jane Fonda VS Megyn Kelly war of words and the TV host seems to be on Jane's side.
Wendy Williams has never shied away from speaking her mind and she has proved it yet again that nothing can stop her as this time, she decided to go after a fellow television host, Megyn Kelly. Megyn became the talk of the town for her interview with Jane Fonda which the television host had in September of last year.
Jane had appeared on Megyn's show to talk about her Netflix movie, Our Souls at Night, but the questions took a different turn when she was asked about having a possible plastic surgery. Recently, the actress was asked about the same when she sat down for an interview with Variety to talk about the documentary, Jane Fonda in Five Acts. Jane did not hesitate to mention how she felt that the question was quite unprofessional and out of topic.
After seeing the attention around the interview, Megyn decided to address the matter herself and in doing so, the NBC host went on to slam Jane. Reacting to all the criticism she has received till now for her interview, Megyn said, "It’s time to address the poor-me routine." She added that there was a reason behind her asking that question and it happened to be the same movie for which Jane had appeared on the show to promote.
“First, some context. Fonda was on to promote a film about aging. For years she has spoken openly about her joy in giving a cultural face to older women. But I have no regrets about the question. Nor am I in the market for a lesson from Jane Fonda on what is and is not appropriate. After all, this is a woman whose name is synonymous with outrage.”
She went on to question Jane's patriotism. “By the way she still says she’s not proud of America,” Megyn said. “So, the moral indignation is a little much. She put her plastic surgery out there. She said she wanted to discuss the plight of older women in America. And honestly, she has no business lecturing anyone on what qualifies as offensive.”After hearing everything that Megyn had in store for Jane, Wendy stepped in to explain Megyn how to be a good host.
To begin with, Wendy slammed Megyn for going after Jane especially for a show which in her belief does not even exist anymore. “Why are you fighting with her, Megyn Kelly? Is your show still on?” she said. She’s fishing for ratings,” Wendy added by also stating that various reports have suggested that Megyn's show is not doing well on ratings. She further added that the television host was in no position to ask such a question especially knowing that it was the first time the two were doing an interview together.
“You’re [Megyn] brand new to the set; No one knows you in that genre,” Wendy proclaimed. She also referred to Kelly’s clap back at Fonda [explained below] as a “Jerry Springer sign-off moment," she said. After ending her rant on the not so professional behavior of Megyn, Wendy decided to give some insight into what she thought of the situation.
Wendy felt that Megyn was trying to fit herself into a profile which may not be her cup of tea. Her suggestion to Megyn was to stick to what she knows best and not try to fish for things just to entertain people. “Here’s my thought, Jane does look great, she’s 80-years-old. Stevie Wonder could see that’s not a natural 80, but my thought with that is, Megyn is brand new to this one-hour talk format thing and she’s trying to warm up and do some of the stuff what I do," she said.
"She’s trying to be entertaining and light-hearted, and they gave her a boatload of money to do it… It’s just not working out. As a conversationalist with a show, I can tell you, one of the things you don’t do when you first meet somebody is zoom in with questions like that [about plastic surgery]…” Wendy concluded. Megyn is yet to comment on what Wendy had to say.
