Social media trolls Madonna as she fails to understand a meme

After Madonna came across a meme about Britney Spears, she defended the singer little knowing that she will soon be a meme, too

There is no doubt that Madonna is the queen of pop and that there is no one like her in singing but it is also true that the 59-year-old singer still hasn't understood the art of meme. Madonna recently became the butt of jokes when she came across a meme about Britney Spears and tried to defend it.

Madonna came in defense of Britney, failing to understand the meme; Facebook

The viral meme was in fact a compliment to Britney Spears but unfortunately, the Like a prayer singer could not wrap her head around it and failed to understand what the meme actually meant. The meme was directed to Britney in reference to her hit song Toxic.

The post spoke of someone ending the friendship with another when they realize that the other person does not like the song 'Toxic'. The song had originally released in 2014 and is considered to be one of the biggest hits of the singer. It is even deemed to be one of the strongest tracks of her album In the zone.

The meme to which Britany responded; Instagram

The meme was posted by f**kjerry Instagram account on Twitter in order to delight the internet with a bit of humor. "Me: I have 9 friends. Friend: Toxic by Britney Spears isn't even that good. Me: I have 8 friends," reads the meme which Madonna had come across.

Madonna's comment on Twitter

The meme essentially means that anyone who does not like the song Toxic by Britney has no right to become friends with another person. Unfortunately, the singer misinterpreted the meme entirely and believed that it had been a post which was dissing Britney.

The singer quickly came in Britney's defense and wrote, "That song is [fire emoji] you are so wrong." It did take long for the Twitter users to notice the mistake and have fun at Madonna's expense. Many of them came forward with their own hilarious responses.

In fact, f**kjerry wrote a response of their own stating that she clearly did not get the underlying joke. The response read, "Mom, I don't think you get the meme @madonna...Toxic is life." On the other hand, various others users also came forward with their own comments.

One person pointed out that Madonna might be the queen of pop but the singer needed to update her knowledge about what a meme is. The tweet read, "Madonna Ciccone, queen of pop and not understanding memes." While another could not control laughter after reading the post.

"Still crying at Madonna omg she didn't get the meme at all," the tweet read. But, on the brighter side, (for Madonna) there was another person who failed to understand the idea of memes and supported Madonna for the statement she had made.

This person was none other than former Real Housewives of Orange County star Heather Dubrow. A single word written by Heather was enough to drag her into the circle of the joke. Heather replied to Madonna's post by writing "agreed" and the internet did not spare Heather.

One person wrote that Madonna and Heather represent the "moms" who do not understand what meme means to today's world. "And here we have @madonna & @heatherdubrow, representing moms who simply don't get meme culture..." the tweet read.

However, there was one tweet which set our mind to wonder as the tweet asked what was Madonna actually doing on the page going through memes. Especially, since the Instagram account does not happen to some star-studded page and goes by the name "f**kjerry".

While some could not help themselves from writing about how much they admired that the singer stood for Britany One person wrote, "Madonna defending @britneyspears in a comment on insta is the only type of friendship I want. #bffgoals"
