Michelle Obama gifts Barack a special 'Forever Mine' Spotify playlist on Valentine's Day
The playlist features selections from Kendrick Lamar, Florence and the Machine, Van Morrison, Stevie Wonder, and more.
What do you get the former Leader of the Free World for Valentine’s Day? Why, a Spotify playlist of course! And that’s exactly what former First Lady Michelle Obama did this Valentine’s Day when she displayed her love for her husband as well as her eclectic taste in music by gifting Barack a 44-song playlist titled ‘Forever Mine’. Is the number 44 a reference to the fact that Obama was the 44th President? Perhaps!
The playlist runs through love ballads spanning decades - it's made up of soul/R&B classics like Barry White's Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe and Ben E. King's Stand By Me, as well as more modern tracks, like Kendrick Lamar's Love, featuring Zacari and Janelle Monae's Primetime, featuring Miguel.
Other artists that featured on the First Lady's playlist included Florence and the Machine (Dog Days Are Over), Beyoncé (Halo), Van Morrison (Moondance), Stevie Wonder (You and I), and Luther Vandross (If This World Were Mine). Check out the playlist below:
"Happy #ValentinesDay to my one and only, @BarackObama," she wrote in her Instagram post. "To celebrate the occasion, I'm dedicating a little Valentine's Day playlist to you!”
Barack Obama, for his part, shared his own sweet dedication to his wife, with a post on Instagram showing the pair on vacation. "Happy Valentine's Day, @MichelleObama. You make every day and every place better.”
Both the Obamas have shown their enthusiasm for music in the past, creating playlists to share their favorite tunes of the moment. In a post to Facebook on December 31, 2017, Barack shared, in addition to his favorite books, his favorite songs of the year.
His list included hits like Family Feud by Jay Z (featuring Beyonce), Humble by Kendrick Lamar, Feel It Still by Portugal. The Man and Sign of the Times by Harry Styles among others.
The former POTUS also curated two separate playlists for the summer of 2016, with different tunes for daytime and nighttime. In 2015, Michelle shared her International Day of the Girl playlist, featuring everyone from Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj to Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin and Billie Holiday.
So it looks like the Obamas have a wide ranging taste in music, spanning across generations of music. They appear to be big fans of modern hip-hop artists like Beyonce and Jay Z, Alicia Keys, Leon Bridges and Kendrick Lamar in addition to more classic masters like Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder and Billy Joel, who all appear multiple times across multiple playlists.
