Forbes has released their list of most overpaid actors of 2017

Straight white men are known to get more opportunities and often more chances in life. Hollywood this year has proved this theory.

Forbes' list of most overpaid actors of 2017 proves men in Hollywood are being paid way more than what their movies collected at box office. These actors have been chosen with a careful formula that involves both star power and disappointing performances.

This is the criteria used to determine each actor's worth:

We looked at the last three films each actor starred in prior to June 1, 2017, leaving out animated films, movies in which the actor had a small role, or movies that were shown on fewer than 2,000 screens. Movies released after June 1, 2017, were not considered.

The most interesting aspect of this list is that both male and female actors were considered for this list, but because actresses still earn a lot less than their male counterparts, none of them made it to the top 5.

Mark Wahlberg

There is no man better fit to play a Brooklyn hothead or say "Say hi to your mother for me", but this year has not been the best for Mark Wahlberg's movies.

It was still a great year for him, though, considering he earned $68 million pretax this year. This year his films earned $4.40 at the box office for every $1 he made.

Christian Bale

This dark knight's films earned $6.70 per dollar he was paid and he came second only to Mark Wahlberg in the list of most overpaid actors. Forbes reports that his film The Promise earned just 11 percent of its production costs at the box office. It is undoubtedly one of the worst performing films of the year.

So does he deserve the enormous salary he's been raking in? 2018 will tell.

Channing Tatum

Forbes also lists Magic Mike among the people who got paid way more than he deserved. His films made $7.60 at the box office for every $1 he earned in his recent films.

Logan Lucky, which earned amazing reviews but attracted very few people to the movie halls, reportedly played a huge role in Channing's presence in this list. According to Forbes, the heist film grossed just $46.7 million on a $29 million budget.

Denzel Washington

He may be an Oscar-winning actor, but Denzel also unfortunately found himself in Forbes' list of overpaid actors. His films reportedly earned back $10.40 at the box office for every $1 he was paid.

While the August Wilson adaptation Fences did well domestically, the film had a poor run internationally. Top that with one of the worst performing films of the year, The Magnificent Seven, and he found his way to the list as well.

Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt, who generated $11.50 at the box office for every $1 he was paid in his last three releases, is also featured in the list. He was not in many films this year, but he clearly failed to make any impact even when he was.
