Drew Barrymore dishes about the time her ex-husband found out she had an online dating profile
Barrymore said she's always wanted to go on a blind date so she signed up to an app
She's been single for 18 months since her divorce from Will Kopelman. Dating in the digital age is tough: just ask Drew Barrymore. The Never Been Kissed actress has opened up about her epic fail at trying to find love in the digital age.
Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday, Barrymore, said ever since she was a teenager, she’d “fantasized about going on a blind date” but couldn’t because of her fame.
“OK, here’s the deal. Ever since I was like, a teenager, and was excited about the idea of, you know, dating someone,” she said. “I always fantasized about having a blind date, which I have never or will never be able to have on my side at least.”
“So when the whole dating app started, years went by and my dear friend, she was on this dating app called Raya. And then I heard Amy Schumer saying she met her boyfriend on there,” Barrymore, 42, continued. “One night I’m flying home by myself, and I’m like, ‘Screw it! I’m going to fulfill my fantasy and go on a dating app.’”
The mother of two said: “I texted with this one guy and said, ‘Okay, sure, if you feel inclined to go for a drink, that’d be great. But zero pressure.’ I never got a response.”
Another potential match said he could meet up one night, so she told him when she was available. “It’s like as lame as it gets! He writes me back and he goes, ‘Oh, I’m gone for the holidays’. And that was it,” She laughed. But not before her profile was spotted by her ex-husband!
“Later on, I was in the kitchen with Will (her ex) and he goes “I just saw your profile. It came up on my phone,” she told Ellen. “I go “When?” and he says, Like two days ago.”
The actress had Ellen and the audience in stitches at this point. “I was like, Motherf*****! I’m still on it! I’m still trying to get off the site."
“We’ll help you get off,” DeGeneres, 60, quipped. “We’re going to help you get off that site. That’s what I mean.”
The actress continued having fun with Ellen, playing dress-ups and telling her how much she misses the warm L.A. weather. She currently lives in New York with her daughters Olive, 5 and Frankie, 3.
