Baby Life, the infant whose mother gave up her own life so she could be born, has died

It's hard to know what the future holds. For Nick De Kylen, if his wife's death wasn't enough, his newborn baby girl Life also passed away, exactly 14 days after his wife's death.

The mother of five children, Carrie DeKlyen, 37, had given up on cancer treatment to save the life of her newborn baby. But her baby's life was cut short unexpectedly due to natural causes.

It all began when Carrie, from Wyoming, Michigan was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme or GBM- an aggressive tumor that grows rapidly in either the brain or the spine. A tumor was growing inside Carrie's brain and doctors told her that if she wanted to live, she mustn't delay treatment and terminate her eight-week pregnancy immediately.

Being pro-life, Nick, her husband and Carrie both decided to keep the child despite the looming threat over Carrie. Despite the refusal to participate in chemotherapy, Doctors at the University of Michigan told her that Carrie had a chance to survive if she would opt for a premature delivery.

Thus Life Lynn DeKlyen was born on September 6th — 24 weeks into Carrie DeKylen’s pregnancy and weighed 1 pound 4 ounces at the time of delivery and was placed under observation.

Unfortunately, Carrie didn't survive and passed away in the presence of her loved ones — including her five children and husband on September 9. Regardless of the grief, Nick chose to see the only silver lining in the dark cloud — his newborn daughter who was the result of his beloved wife's sacrifice.

In an interview with Nick stated: “She gave up her life for the baby,” he said, adding later: “I just want people to know that my wife loved the Lord. She loved her kids. She put anybody in front of her needs … She put my daughter above herself.” But it turned out, providence had other plans for his family.

Life passed away due to a sudden fall in her blood pressure and oxygen levels. The infant’s death was announced on Thursday on the couple’s Facebook page.

The post read: “It is with great sadness and an absolutely broken heart that I tell you Life Lynn passed away last night,” the post read.

“Carrie is now rocking her baby girl. I have no explanation of why this happened, but I do know Jesus loves us and someday we will know why. The grief we feel is almost unbearable, please be praying for our family.”

Sonya Nelson, aunt to Life Lynn DeKlyen, revealed the news to the press on Wednesday evening at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. "We don't have any answers," Nelson said, adding, "the cards were kind of stacked against her after being born at 24 weeks and five days into the pregnancy—about "the earliest you can survive."

Sonya is in shock and cannot fathom the losses that took place in her family. "Maybe Carrie needed her. It is comforting for us to know that she went home to be with Carrie," she stated.

May the lord be with the De Kylen's and give them the strength to deal with the sorrows.
