‘Ray Donovan’ is undoubtedly one of the most intriguing shows of all-time and ended its run with seven brilliant seasons. However, the way Showtime decided to cancel the series is still debatable. The series was canceled after seven seasons without any advance warning, leaving fans and showrunner, David Hollander, in shock. Hollander already had a plan for Season 8, which was supposed to be the show’s last season.

The fans flooded the social media with the demand for another season or a movie that will give proper closure to the drama and it seems their prayers have finally been answered. Liev Schreiber began filming scenes for the upcoming two-hour movie in Boston. The actor took to Instagram saying, "Took us 8 years but we're here! So happy that we get to finish where it all started. Big up to Boston!!! @raydonovan #southie #finishwhereyoustart".

Showtime is bringing back ‘Ray Donovan’ for a one-off movie that will bring proper closure to the series that was abruptly scrapped after seven years. The upcoming movie will pick up where Season 7 left off. Ray is determined to find and stop Mickey before he causes any more carnage. The movie is being written by Liev Schriber and David Hollander, who will also serve as a director. Jon Voight will also reprise his role as Mickey Donovan, as will Kerris Dorsey as Ray's daughter Bridget.

The makers will be hoping to get a bumper response from the movie because the show won numerous accolades throughout its run and received praise from the critics as well as the audiences.

Release date

There is no confirmed release date for the movie as of yet. However, the production is expected to start later this year in New York and the movie will premiere exclusively on Showtime.

The official synopsis reads: “Mickey is in the wind and Ray is determined to find and stop him before he can cause any more carnage. It will also weave together the present-day fallout from the Donovan/Sullivan feud with Ray and Mickey's origin story from 30 years ago.”

Liev Schreiber

Schreiber is one of the most prominent faces of the television industry and has worked on a plethora of high-end projects. He started his acting career in 1994 with a TV movie called ‘Janek: The Silent Betrayal’. After making appearances in several independent movies, the actor got his first major role in 2004 in ‘The Manchurian Candidate’ alongside Denzel Washington and Meryl Streep. The movie was a critical success and earned him a nomination in the best supporting actor category at the Saturn Awards.

In 2013, he made his first appearance as Ray Donovan in the series of the same one. The show instantly became a success and Scheiber was nominated for a Golden Globe for his acting. The actor was nominated in the best actor category for five consecutive years, but sadly never could get his hands on the trophy. He also has eight Primetime Emmy nominations to his name.

Jon Voight

The Academy-Award winning star needs no introduction. John Voight has been a part of the industry for more than five decades and has given many memorable performances in his illustrious career. He started his career in 1963 with the TV series ‘Naked City’ and went on to work in numerous shows until 1969.

The actor had to wait for nine long years to get his second nomination at the Academy Awards. Voight received a best actor nod for ‘Coming Home’ and emerged victorious in the category.

Since then, he has been nominated for an Oscar on two different occasions. The veteran also has four Golden Globes and one Primetime Emmy to his name.

Kerris Dorsey

Cash started her acting career in 1998 as a child actor with ‘Walk the Line’ and worked on several television projects. She gained prominence with her role of Paige Whedon in the TV show ‘Brothers & Sisters’.
